Any advice for guys? I can't offer any, since as far as I'm concerned, footwear comes in three kinds; business shoes, hardcore boots, and sports shoes. None of these are especially sexy. Is there a fourth way? Or is it in the details?

The specific brand or type isn't always important. sure, if they're really expensive shoes, that says something. what says more to me is the color, and state of disrepair. seeing a guy in perfectly white shoes that he clearly has cleaned every spot off tells me that the guy is high maintenance. Neon-orange skateboarding shoes? no taste, thinks too much of himself. I prefer a guy in nice, worn-in tennis shoes. that means he's down to earth and reasonable.

Thanks. I wear worn-in tennis shoes for driving (which means I wear them all the time) because they're light and give lots of feel. How about those "Kurt Cobain" baseball shoes, made famous by Converse? They're in the sports category, but a bit different.

I think of those as "emo for your feet". the level of "emo for your feet" they are is directly proportional to the number of messages written on them with sharpie.

I tend to wear plain black Tred-Safe shoes, usually worn by restaurant staffers. Comfy, long wearing and since they're black, who can tell if they're stylish?

I wear Doc Marten's, either plain or cap toe, combat boots, or my faves, all black, Chuck Taylor's basketball high tops.
But I am a fat guy, and whilst walking today (for exercise) a broad I didn't even know told me to lose some weight!
I told her that I WAS exercising, and for just such a reason, and that she should get a better hobby than judging complete strangers, and not be such a fucking bitch.
Some skinny dude, walking near me, high fived me. The bitch however said nothing, just gave me the stink-eye.

Well I found it depends on the type of girl. I'm around country women a lot being from the midwest (Kansas to be exact) in the states. And cowboy boots to a country girl are about as sexy as you can get.

I've also found that women don't like when men wear flip flops or sandals. It makes them look cheap.

Pretty much goes without saying that sandals are out, for pulling purposes.

This doesn't really matter for you, because you've got a girl already, but saying "I work out" translates in a girl's head as "I like to measure myself and look at myself in the mirror" and though the body is desirable, the jock image, particularly as you get older, is a bit of a turn off for a large percentage of women.

I suppose that my $10-from-Wal*Mart velcro shoes that are far past the point of being beat to death are a bad thing then, huh?

Although I've been thinking of getting a pair of black tanker boots sometime, they seem pretty sturdy, so I can abuse them without totally wrecking them in the process. (What are tanker boots? Take an army boot and replace the laces with a big strap. Also they're supposedly a slightly looser, more comfortable fit, something to do with not restricting blood circulation when sitting in one place in a tank for hours on end.)
