My two VERY old pcs.

General
My computers:
I would like to write something extra about me (more than what I wroted so far in different posts) And specially why it takes me so much time to do anything.
Well, as I mentioned, I’m a 3d generalist. And all you already meet my main character, Mirra Kerzdath.
I tried to create some animations, but so far, I can’t really do much about it because I own two very old computers:
– EAS Nimrod
Procesor: Phenom II X3 – (Actually a Phenom II X555 with 2 cores at 3,1 ghz, I can unlock 2 extras, so this processor actually has 4 cores, but the fourth one it’s faulty, so I can use 3 cores, overclocked to 4,05 ghz) Socket AM3
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA 870A-UD3 rev 3.0 (When I brought this back in 2011 I did A LOT of research, unfortunately not enough. I should have went for the rev 3.1 which had AM3+ slot and support for 32gb of ram. This one in *theory* has support for only 16 gb of ram, despite running it with 18 gb. But also, AM3+ processors would have allowed me to use processors with SSE 4.1 instructions, which, my Phenom II X3 lacks, which means I can’t use Arnold renderer for 3ds max. For my classes I had to use a software emulator for SSE 4.1 and 4.2 instructions which maked everything 7 times slower (yeah, I benchmarked it).
Memory: 18 gb of ram ddr3 at 1200 ghz (2 x 4 gb G.skill in one channel, and a “highly chinese” YRUIS 8 gb paired with a Kingston hyperX 2gb on the second channel… The YRUIS memory, despite being rated at 1600 crashes the entire system unless I lower the speed at 1280 or so, quite shitty memory, but it’s a tradeoff)
Storage:
– SSD Kingston A400 120 gb. Yeah, the chapest one. I used to run TWO of these on raid 0, but one of them died for no reason at all. Later I understood that it was quite poinless to run cheap ssds on raid 0
– Western digital green 1 tb (model from 2011) quite shitty hdd. In speed benchmarks can barely reach 70 mb/s in read and write.
– Barracuda 1 tb (ST1000DM010) quite good hdd, I got it second hand, around 170 mb/s of write and read
Video card: Radeon RX 580 – 8 gb Yeah, a good video card with plenty of ram! Thanks to it I can use several programs and even do GPU render based stuff (like Cycles or radeon pro render) This is the base of most of my art!! Also currently this video card costs more than both of my computers combined!!
I use this computer for rendering and texturing. Also for animation.
And then there is my second computer;
ARA Esteban Echeverría
Processor: Xeon X5450 – 4 cores (3 ghz original, overclocked to 3,4 ghz) Socket 775 (I brought it with the mod 771 to 775 already on, for only 20€)
Motherboard: Gigabyte DDR2 (actually brought it for 5€ because it’s previous owner thought it didn’t work), 8 GB of ram 800 mhz, (part of it salvaged from trash, along with the cage)
Storage: 240 gb SSD (don’t remember brand right now, but it’s a good one) along with a 250 gb and a 500 gb hdd (both salvaged from trash)
Video card: Ati Radeon HD 6790 1 gb
I use this one mainly for modelling, doing captures with a Kinect 360, and well, playing games. Technically it’s my main computer, since the other one it’s setup up in a way I can leave it all night.
But yeah, this Xeon it’s from 2009, while the Phenom II it’s from 2011. With the time I have been upgrading them little by little (the main change was the radeon RX 580) with the few money I had.
