Once upon a time...

A noose was found hanging in Bubba Wallace's garage stall. Bubba is the only black driver in NASCAR. The area is supposed to be secure, so only someone part of NASCAR could have done it.

But go on, tell me "all lives matter" I dare you.

There are dumbass's everywhere... but the south has been more blessed with them than most places... All lives do matter... As my mother would say just because someone else shows their ass child... it doesn't mean you have to do it. Two wrongs don't make a right...

"All lives matter" simply ignores the fact that currently Black lives are in particular danger due to systematic racism. For me it's wrong to ignore systematic injustice and prejudice in favor of som milquetoast centrism that will only ever help the oppressors.

Currently Black lives are in no more danger from racism today than they have been for years... far less than they were from racism in the past 50's 60's 70's. Black lives are in far more danger in this day and age from other black lives than they are from pecker wood racist dumb-ass's.

They can hardly count on the police to help: the cops are only too willing to call nooses "piñata strings". There are already folks out there wondering if he or a member of his team didn't do it just for the publicity.

To be fair, the police have to consider all possibilities and that's definitely a possibility. Remember, Jessie Smollet faked a noose attack to get publicity.

But it might also have been real. Let them investigate and figure it out.

If they investigate then they should do so to the best of their abilities. We were discussing the flaws of starting with presumptions on things.

Was I or anyone else advocating they do anything less? Discounting real possibilities before investigation of course would be suggesting they do less than their best.

There were actual nooses hanging from trees in the Bronx that the police there were calling "leftover piñata strings" and thus did not bother to investigate. I would hope police in this case do a bit better than that.

And there were also things folks were calling nooses in Oakland that turned out to be put up as exercise equipment. This is why we investigate instead of jump to conclusions. And why we should never, ever, delegate justice to a mob (online or otherwise).

My trust issues with police are not helped when some group of them can't be bothered to do their jobs. I've seen the pictures from the Bronx incident and I can't see how anyone could mistake them for piñata strings. An investigation that arrives at a foregone conclusion is just a farce.

Mob justice is an oxymoron.

Good, so we agree to let the authorities investigate and that mob justice is anything but. Stop prejudging this incident and let them do their work.

Trust... but verify. Instead of preemptively assuming the worst. If you don't give people some room to do their work, then you are going to make their work impossible, and then we'll be in a worse place than we were before.

So, just heard that after the investigation it was determined that the noose had been there since October of last year and was not a hate crime, no charges are being filed. Not sure why there was noose there in the first place, but it doesn't look like this was deliberate.

Yes, I was just reading it too. Someone else is saying it was a door-pull that just happens to be shaped like a noose (the loop at the end would provide grip, but if it were cut the right way it certainly would look like a noose). If I were putting up a door pull I'd more likely put just a knob-knot at the end rather than the loop.

Like you I find it weird that it would be there for that long and no one else noticing it. On the other hand white people aren't generally lynched so the immediate shape of it likely wouldn't necessarily ring any bells.

Here's some more pictures showing other bays and other rope pulls. They're all in the noose knot. That suggests to me less a hate crime and more a serious lack of judgement.

Yeah, serious lack of judgement definitely covers that. I still can't blame him for reacting to something like that even to me it's creepy as all get out.

In this atmosphere I don't blame him for the initial reaction either, but Nascar seemed to do the right thing in dealing with it to date.
