VRChat avatar in action (video)
I made a video of the different features of my VRChat avatar. See https://youtu.be/O5y8nGx82zQ to check out the facial expressions, weight gain, jiggle physics, and more!

I get to ask some 3D artists who can do VRchat models if they can do mine and they answer with impossible as my character's bone structure would not work in VRchat, then I look at yours and now I think they're just BSing me or trying to get easy money for easy jobs XD
I'm not sure why other artists would say the shape is impossible. I might have more experience with rigging and animation given that I learned back when UT2004 was fresh and automatic rigging tools didn't exist for non-commercial users.
I do want to make VRC avatars as commissions in the future! Not sure when I'll start though. I'd like to get another couple avatars out first. Working on that now.
I would wait to see what you offer when you open up!
I think I'm better off shopping for some consultant that can do this sort of commission work.
I'd like to do 3d avatar commissions, but I don't think I have enough of a portfolio yet.
I will try to Google this answer, but in case I don't find it easily, my next question regards making sibling connections.
"Right foot transform 'RightFoot' is not a child of right lower leg transform 'RightLeg02'" - these bones exist, but for whatever reason, they do not have this parent/sibling relationship. Is there a way to connect these in Unity? I hope I don't have to return to Blender to fix these rigs, but if I do, I could use a hint on how this is done. I was hoping the CATS addon for Blender would've achieved this with its "fix model" function.
Once I do this, all the rigging errors will vanish and I can apply the rig settings. There are 4 things to fix (both hands and both feet, and there is rigging for the optional fingers and toes making 8 if I do the optional rigs). If you know how this may be done, that'll be marvelous to learn!
Bonus topic for me to learn: The blender model has control rigs for individual "growth" sections, like pectorals, biceps, etc. I see there's a muscle tab for the model rigging as well, but it ignores my clicking on it. I assume I need to fix the bone rigging before it lets me go there. Is the process like the bone rigging, just using selectors to indicate the scaling controls?
I'm Unktehila in VRchat, and could use some time getting my trust level elevated.
Second, check this extremely short and concise video: https://youtu.be/o5f18T7Rjmc . I love how to the point that YouTuber is! The bones in your model might not have the proper relationships set up, so parenting should be all you need. I doubt you need to change any weight painting. You can also keep all offers when parenting just in case things aren't exactly attached.
Finally, growth can be done via skeletal animation (unlikely) or shape keys (very likely and how I did mine). Shape keys must be toggled on by setting the influence slider to 1.0 in object mode or selecting one in edit mode. https://youtu.be/CaHomz6gPWY might help. You can activate various levels of any shape keys or multiple shape keys simultaneously. I think you can only edit them one at a time. I took my weight gain shape keys and us d them to create custom gestures in Unity/VRC. I might have referenced https://youtu.be/vrY3FgpzLRY when doing the custom gestures. You do need to download gestures from the video description -- you cannot edit the gestures without having the files downloaded and overriden (built-in gestures are read only, but your copies can be modified).
Hope that helps!
Afaik, there are scaling controls separate from the bones. I may be wrong and will discover it when I get to that stage. I'd be content having him clear the red marks off his rigging setup for the time being!
The setup does say "Model is not in T pose" which I guess needs to be corrected to finalize the rigging? He's in a natural, relaxed, arms at the side pose as imported.
CATS options for doing skeletal hierarchy is also not finding things it could in the old blender. So it complains about not finding hips, spine, shoulders, arms and legs. Basically it's become useless. The old blender at least the model was recognizable after CATS fixed it. The new one, CATS is useless, plain export is useless... I'm feeling like I've gone backward into more confusion and frustration than actually making any real progress on this project.
Therefore, given the expense to pay a professional to do this work, and judging from how the canned avatars (even for money) are really not worth it, I'm thinking I'll just erase Unity and all of VRchat, as I can be bored and ignored in a regular chat room without needing this extra rigmarole.
At least I gave it my best shot, but as with high end technology past my 35 years of experience just doing embedded systems, I'm clearly out of my league with 3D graphics.
Do not delete Unity! You will need it to upload your avatar as a private upload! If you delete Unity, then you'll have to share your account credentials with whomever uploads your avatar in order to lock it into private mode. Sharing credentials is not good...but I suppose it's ok if you trust the person and change password afterwards.
If you want, you can send me the model and I can take a stab at it. I'll let you know if I can get it working in VRC. Some 3d artist furries are...not trained or fully familiar with all of Blender's features. A lot of the models I've checked out recently don't have their armatures exported correctly. If I think I can get it working then we can do a PWYW arrangement on the work. Telegram Myriaderoc, Twitter Myriaderoc, or note me here for email info. I'll know as soon as I open the model.
How did you go about all this? Follow any guides ?
VRChat-specific info came from studying example models, poking around in Unity, and some random YouTube videos.
I'll check those out, now that VR seems to be taking off a bit it's something to look into now.
Thank you for pointing out where to look.
