More MRE reviews!

General
I've tried a few more MREs ("Meal, individual, Ready to Eat" field rations) since last time, and here's my report from the "field";
BARBECUE SAUCE WITH BEEF
Quality: 2/10
This one was kind of... strange.
The sauce was a little sweet, but mostly sour, due to all the vinegar the manufacturer dumped into it. There were also a few bits of tomatoes and green bell peppers in the sauce, but they did NOTHING for flavor or texture.
The beef was ground (which sucked --- I was hoping it would be shaven or shredded), and didn't tase particularly good either. The texture was hardly worth mentioning.
I didn't like this entree.
BEEF POT ROAST WITH VEGETABLES AND GRAVY
Quality:10/10
This was unbelievably good!
It contained an ACTUAL slice of Beef Pot Roast (and a generously thick cut at that), with gravy, potatoes, mushrooms, tomatoes, and carrots. It tasted just like real, home-made Beef Pot Roast, and the texture was the best of any MRE I've yet eaten (tender!).
It's a must-have.
BREADED CHICKEN BREAST PATTIE WITH RIB MEAT IN TOMATO SAUCE WITH PASTA
Quality: 7/10
It was a little like Chinken Parmesean --- not incredible, but good.
There was more breaded chicken meat than sauce, and very little pasta. The pasta was a bit disappointing as well, being little shells (flat noodles or spirals would have been more appealing, but hey --- it's a field ration).
This wasn't a bad meal, but it could have been a lot better without much effort.
And what's up with "Rib Meat"? I don't recall finding any inside, unless it was -chicken- rib meat...
There was one more MRE I tried, but I can't remember what it was called, nor even what was in it.
It was good, though.
Also, I've recently determined that the MREs I've tried so far are NOT authentic MREs! The meals are the essentially the same as the GI stuff, but the packaging and accessories of these "civilian MREs" are different.
I did, however, acquire a -real- US-military-issue MRE, complete with opaque tan wrapper, "Soldier-with-M16" logo, and that infamous notice that says;
...which I purchased from a surplus store for about $7.
I'll let you know what it's like once I've tried it!

When you get tossed one off a truck, your luck was in the hands of fate. Even then, most were at least edible, and a few (even the original beef stew, I guess a lot like the pot roast now, was the top pick.)
But the end all of horridness, was, if I recall correctly, Menu #5 - the freeze dried pork patty. THis was evil in a thick plastic/aluminized (prolly a mylar) package. The saving grace, was decent in that pack - really hard crackers and a cheese spread packet in there as well. You could use to pork patty to prop up a wobbly cot, while enjoying the cheese and crackers. The chicklets in the accessories was nice, as well as the tiny bottle of tobasco sauce.
The spaghetti menu item was good too.
Apparently, those unlucky enough to acquire these ate them without reconstitution, because their nice, chewy (when dry) texture was their only redeeming quality;

I'll have to give the Spaghetti MRE a try as well!
"Matter Rectally Excreted"
It certainly goes with the "Veggie Omelet" MRE...
(read my earlier MRE review; http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/433052/ )

It's pretty much up-to-date, and has the 2009 menu.
Still pretty tasty, though. Have you tried the Bbq Pork ribless patty?
Of course, there are more colorful theories;

I haven't tries the BBQ Pork Patty yet, so that will have to go on my to-do list. I have, however, had the "Veggie Patty"; http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/433052/
