Maddie Gets Munchies

Kyoo no tema wa kore desu....
Today I spent my last penny from my 1st paycheck on goodies for my dog, Maddie. She's an aged border collie mix, completely deaf, developing cataracts in both eyes, weak-legged in the back and arthritic in the front. But she's still very alert, and as active as her body will allow her to be.
These past months Maddie has had enough to eat, but things have been kind of lean for her goody-wise. I've never been one to give lots of treats, plus I'm picky about what I give her, but still I've felt absolutely rotten about not giving Maddie a little something every now & then. Thanks to a combination of OMG I HAS JOB, and stumbling across some unexpectedly good deals, there's now enough dog-treats for weeks (if not months).
I can't wait to get home from the library, give Maddie a much-needed trim, and reward her with a whole cow's foot. She'll totally go nuts when she sees it! Then she'll spend about 15 minutes carrying this massive thing about in her mouth, trying to find the exact right spot, her head sinking lower & lower from the weight of the thing but she'll be damned if she'll let go, until I finally make a nest from her padding & tell her "Lay down, already!" and she happily collapses & commences gnawing on her new treasure.
It's increasingly obvious that my spazzhund has almost run out of spazz. I'm so happy to be able to spoil her in her last days.

I'll have to take her pic today or tomorrow so you can see the hack-job I did to her coat. She's got fur like cat-hair, it's very fine & floats about. In her old age it's growing very shaggy, and she looks like a neglected junk-yard dog--so every now & then I have to trim it down to make her look more respectable.
Arrrrg, I should've taken some 'before' pics! ::facepalm!::
Maddie's finally realized that she's old, and she's worried about it. I used to have to stop frisbee & ball-toss out of concern, but most times Maddie now stops on her own. This summer as a treat we took the dogs to Patagonia Lake. Maddie absolutely loves the water, so at first she went utterly apecookies. But she just doesn't have the strength to stay in the water for long. She got such an expression on her face-- worried and resigned at the same time. I think the dog is now aware of her own mortality, and she's not happy about it, but doesn't know what to do.
All the more reason to spoil her. ^__^
Blechhh, pizza. Chinese? Or ice cream! ^___^
