A Roadblock.....
So I've got good news and I've got bad news.
I'll start with the bad, cause in all honesty it's the most important. Around a week ago one of the 2tb Hdds in my main tower PC died. All it had on it was around 1.2tb of blu ray rips however it scared me enough that I went on ahead and replaced both the drives with new ones. While the loss was certainly annoying, it's not that big of a deal, had it been the other drive, I would have lost all of my blender work. I do keep backups, but they're infrequent at best. Let this be a lesson to everybody here, back yo shit up….
However that's not the issue that forced me to make this post. Nope, my GPU is the real issue. My main PC is a Ryzen 1700X paired along with a 1080TI. It's around 2-3 years old at this point. I purchased that 1080TI right at the height of the GPU mining craze for far too much money and now one of the fan bearings is going out. Once the fan rpm ramps up past ~1k the whole card starts buzzing. As you can probably guess this is quite a big issue when running a render in a program like blender, where the GPU can quite literally bake itself if the fans aren't working.
I have no idea what to do about this. I could jank something together with a normal computer fan, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable letting a render run under those conditions. There's no way for me to just replace it either. Covid kept my usual summer job from rehiring me this year, and college has left me basically broke. I'm at a bit of an impasse, and rather than fight it I've decided to try something a bit different.
The Good:
As some of you may or may not know, I used to write stories quite a lot. It's something I quite enjoy, however I mostly stopped last year during college (A college level english course will do that to you :P).
As such I have quite a few stories left in my Gdocs that need to be finished and lately I've been working on them. One in particular caught my attention. Started writing it around the time I posted the Journeyman's Trap story, back when I was still writing and before I started learning blender. Rather than go into detail on it I'll just put a bit of a teaser below.
Bit of a content warning, this story, and teaser for that matter, contain quite a bit of Anthro x Feral Dragon shenanigans, so keep that in mind.
A Mounts Getaway: Chap 1/3
His heart jumped as the door opened, fresh sunlight pouring in. The sound of claws on concrete echoed through the room. Under the belly of the dragon beside him he saw a flash of green before his captor came into view. Behind her was an emerald scaled dragon, dressed up in the same harness as the other three present in the room. It eyed him curiously, ignoring the panting male beside him.
His captor brought the dragon forward before turning it around. She gently grabbed the base of its tail and lifted, pulling the meaty appendage up and out of the way. She secured it to a padded cuff attached to the top side of the dragon's harness, the remainder of the tail gently curling around the dragon's body.
She stepped out of the way, giving him a great view of his new ‘partner’. The dragon was a female, a pronounced slit visible between its back thighs. It was almost directly level with his head, the dragon's tailhole placed a couple inches above it.
She connected two thick tethers to the dragons harness, one on either side of its haunches, before turning to face him. She walked up to the wall, gently tugging the dragon along with her. It snorted, confused, before backpedaling slowly. She vaulted over the wall behind him with ease, attaching the two tethers to something with an audible click. More rapid clicks sounded as the tethers began slowly retracting, the dragon taking a few more stumbling steps back towards him. He whined, pulling his head as far to the side as it could go, straining the still loosened restraints clipped to the side of his head.
The clicking stopped with the dragon meer inches from his face, his entire field of vision dominated by the things scaly green rump. His captor vaulted the wall once more, reaching for one of the loose straps by his head. She pulled it tight, lining his head back up with the dragons rear entrance. She reached for the strap on the other side, doing the same.
Taking a step back she patted the dragon on the haunch, all he could see was her hand.
“This right here is Tera, you and her are going to get, very, well acquainted over the next few days. I'd get used to this view if I were you.”
She smirked, although he couldn’t see it, and quickly vaulted back over the wall, walking up behind him.
“I'm going to remove your muzzle,'' she said, her hand suddenly coming into view. A click sounded next to his cheek, the muzzle loosening. “I don’t want to hear a peep out of you though,'' she continued, finishing the job with another click. She pulled the cloth muzzle off of him and replaced it with her hand, holding his mouth shut with an iron grip. “The only sounds I want to hear from you two is the soft grunts of a female dragon in pleasure.”
She kept her grip on him as the clicking started behind him once more, tethers slowly tugging the dragon backwards. It took another stumbling step back, its slit slapping up against the end of his snout. He tried to struggle out of the way but between the hand guiding him and the restraints there was nothing he could do.
His captor pressed the end of his snout against the dragons slit, scales parting revealing the pink flesh within. The dragon made an odd sound, somewhere between a grunt and a chirp. It backsteped once more, slamming its haunches into his face, pressing his head into the pad behind him. His captor quickly released her grip on his muzzle, pulling her arm out from behind the dragons rump.
His snout was plunged deep into the dragon's slit, slick warpath surrounding him on all sides. He cried out, or at least tried to, squirming around in vain.
The dragon in front of him closed its eyes, grunting as a shudder rocked its body. Pleasure blossomed within its slit, caused by the canine snout shifting around within it. It backed up, pressing its haunches firmly up against the squirming intruder.
His captor took her chance, ratcheting down the tethers as far as they would go, locking the dragons scaly haunches up against his face. She climbed back over the wall, attaching more tethers to the sides of the dragon, ensuring it didn't accidentally wander away from its new toy.
She patted the dragon on the haunches once more, “You two have fun now,'' she said, her voice barely audible through the dragon's thick rump, “I'll be back at nightfall.” And with that, she left, closing the door behind her with an audible slam.....
That's just one of the stories I've got sitting in my Gdocs. I have quite a few more, all in various states of completion. Now that I can't really do any 3D work I intend to finish as many of them as I can, so keep an eye out for that.
And as a final note, I am still looking to get a user icon commissioned from someone, If you know of any artists that do that please let me know!

Maybe you could start a patreon or ko-fi for your works? Probably won't be getting too much help that way, but every little bit counts right? Hope you can still do some low-vertice count kind of 3D stuff though!
Maybe you could mix it with your stories as well? Make some low-poly kind of characters, move them around like board pieces or something in a simple environment as they act out your script!
In any case, really sorry for your loss of power in being able to do 3D stuff, but still excited for whatever else you come up with!
There, no problem :D
jk, really hope you'll be okay !
