A trend I do not like about the fandom
... I have noticed, over the passing years that something is going on in the fandom, that I do not like. Several artist I have followed for their Original characters and their originality have become scribes of copyrighted character and sexualize them. Stopped doing their own things. The reason is, that all the people seem to cherish drawings of sexualized Cyrstal from Sonic or Pikachu from Pokemon more than the long process of coming up with your own ideas, your own world, something that is YOURS. I find this trend very sad. Mostly because I knwo artists that just get attention for ripping of copyrighted characters. Yes, many artist get thousands of dollors for breaking the copyright law every month while they are more than good enough to come up with their own stuff. This is not a speech against fan art , I do it myself, yes. But this is a speech to cherish creativity and not let the fandom become a community known for breaking copyright law and lacking any kind of creativity but putting dicks and giant boobs onto cartoon and game characters.
Maybe this is why I often do not feel well in the fandom anymore.
Hate me for this if you want ^^

I mean, I think you moved from quite a lot of Lion King based or inspired stuff to gradually having more of your own original content.
And I would say that there still definitely is a stylistic influence on some of your lions and hyenas.
Personally, I admit I feel pretty wary of doing fan content exactly because of the whole copyright thing. Furries are by far not unique there of course. The anime fandom more or less established the whole semi commercial fan comic scene.
I do not think it necessarily is bad , but it surely is a bit of a crutch.
You cannot take that sort of thing into actually working at such companies and you cannot commercialize it beyond a very limited point.
I am not too much into arguments about what the fandom should o should not be, because that rather reminds me of the whole arguments about furry being too sexual and all that, but I think it definitely is a bit of a "bad habit" that may end up holding creators down.
About my characters still looking lion king like: It is like it is. and there is nearly no way ending up not kinda copying a lion or hyena off an etablished cartoon or anime ^^
I dont have too much of a prob drawing them but unless its for porn, i rather draw original created characters. At least i can officially say they are copyrighted to myself.
So, why bother with anything original, when you can Easy-Mode it and just use popular Intellectual properties? The characters are already written and fleshed out, so now just Lewd them up!
But also writing isn't easy for everyone, nor is designing, so some people might be a little creatively starved. It doesn't help when your ideas dont resonate with anyone.
And then Celebrities and whatnot likeness is often used and ripped.
but doing nothign else beside that.
I also find it a waste of ideas if you have a character with a very interesting back story but are not willing to untie it from an existing franchise.
You may be a great cover band but you gave up your own songs long ago XD
A different thing is when artists do draw specific characters, and it's just to get attention from people who search for said characters. It seems like a big tradition, where a new Pokemon game comes out and people right away draw the starter pokemon cause people want to see them. There's even an aspect of "misinformation" at hand, as people always look for "their evolutions", cause you only see their base form, so the artists draw their own ideas of how their evolved forms will look.
"No, no no no, I'm not seeking attention. I'm just making my own predictions! I don't aim for people to google the evolutions and find my picture, NOOOOO!!!!"
It just feels like a ploy , and I get that artists want to make money, and getting attention can help with that, but it feels so desperate and pathetic cause people overdo it so much.
That being said, I'm inclined to agree with you. It's disheartening to see artists shift to making their living solely on recycling copyrighted characters over and over again instead of coming out with creative, original content. But, I guess their mindset is "Creativity is hard! Why be creative when I can make money by pandering?"
But I can also imagen some have a hard time coming up with something and still want to feel special about their character. So they let themself being 'inspired' by that characters.
Alright, let me give an example.
Their are two film maker from Belgum, I believe they work in America now, that have made a movie called 'patser'
And the way they introduced the film characters in the some kind of video game way, just liek Suicide sqaute.
I ask.. is that stealing as well. Or are they inspired by what they saw themself when they were young?
Like I said, some would be lazy enough to do that yes, but other maybe aren't so creative to think of a whole character on themself without a little... inspiring from what they like and love.
They're recognizable, and easier to identify than an OC that likely nobody has seen unless you're someone like Leo the Wolf or some shit.
But it's also good to be original, do ORIGINAL things, have your own world. Do that amazing stuff, y'know?!
