My History with Smash - A really dumb vent
5 years ago
One thing to remember, out of all the things in life
I have a massive love hate relationship with Smash
I started playing on the Wii, Brawl was the game I really loved playing, even though I was playing it with just myself thanks to the internet never being reliable back then. Subspace was fun, unlocking Wolf Toon Link and Jigglypuff was fun but frustrating because my Wifi kept crashing when trying their levels.
Then Smash 4 on the 3ds came out, and I really enjoyed it, I played it a ton for who knows how long, and then I realized some of my friends played it too, and so I played online... And then I realized I was outclassed by basically everyone I played against, especially this one Villager. Constant losing streaks and other factors came in and caused me to go on a 5 year haitus, I did buy Smash Ultimate in 2019 but never touched it until only like a month ago, and while I'm fairly better at the game now, the same is happening, and thus I recently started making mental notes of people I'll avoid playing against, which is still growing.
You can call me salty for thinking that, and I sure as hell am salty.
See, you wanna know what's fun? Being able to play a game with your friend, have a few wins and losses, be on an even playing field, have a bit of random thrown in there, the good stuff.
You know what isn't fun? A 1v1 against a player that has over 200-1000 hours in Smash Ultimate, if not more so across all of Smash, getting conboed to oblivion without being able to play, your opponent SDing when you make a pretty dumb mistake out of pity, deciding to rub salt in the wound by spiking or combo-ing you off the stage while you have no hope of recovery, getting on a massive losing streak, stating that they're not that good despite their playstyle saying otherwise, saying "Oh, getting beaten is the best way to learn" or some variation of that crap, saying they'll teach me after me saying I'm not having any fun, and some other stuff I can't think off the top of my head.
See, a game is fun when I actually have the chance to play it, I don't have fun against someone far above my own level, hence why I'm going to actively avoid a lot of the players and fighting against them unless I say otherwise. I'm not dealing with this anymore.
You can see this as me being a sore loser, but try and see how fun it is being in a listings streak, obviously being used for combo practice, or something like that.
So as of right now, Fuck Smash

I'm retired from Smash because I just can't enjoy the games for what they are, competitive scenes are toxic af
I play Smash pretty much exclusively as a Singleplayer game and had more than enough fun with it. Even Splatoon 2 I mostly played for the coop mode and campaigns, rather than the actual multiplayer.
