Delayed Uploads?
Yes! The images uploaded to this site are old-er than my main sites
With how I'm timing them out via Postybirb, they will eventually be months behind. This is intentional.
If you know me I am very vocal about how I don't like this site. Some are technical reasons like the note system being outdated or the settings menu being needlessly spread out.
Some are disagreements with FA's management, like with the lack of transparency for important issues.
However this place is still one of the largest places for furries to gather. So removing one's self is generally futile. If you've been around long enough on FA you'll have seen:
"I'M LEAVING FA FOREVER" to then see a few months later "I'm back" because for some reason a good portion of the fandom gravitates around this site constantly.
This happens less nowadays but it is still a thing mentioned in passing for sure.
I've been delaying posts for a long time now as my "I'm not being on FA as much anymore because it sucks" so the delay won't be new
It being delayed by months, maybe a year (we'll see) rather than the normal 2 weeks delay is the new part.
If you want the latest posts, you can find that on my main sites: Koorivlf.com will lead you there!
I do post artwork even earlier in Hi-Res on Patreon if you're into that
But ya, you may find a Christmas pic uploaded near my birthday next year on this site lol.
FA+

That, plus the fact that you aren't the first person to say something like this just makes me wonder, what's so bad about this website? Genuine question.
I mean on the technical side you have:
- Poor messaging system
- Bad reporting system/weird reporting rules
- UI can be a bit weird or anti-user friendly, especially on mobile. Uploading Pictures is a pain
- Outdated in a lot of areas like settings >___>
- etc
On a more personal/social side you have:
- FA has a problem with racism/alt-right. If you search the N word in the search you'll see they broke the search for that specific word because people noticed their lack of moderation with such slur. Add an S though and the search works again so they didn't even succeed there
- FA did a shallow take on BLM https://twitter.com/furaffinity on a DIFFERENT SITE.
I even talked to the site director about it A MONTH AGO after they had made a poorly worded comment on a similar subject, they messaged me about it so I talked a bit more to them, then they proceeded to ignore my questions on the matter when I asked what was actually going to change https://twitter.com/Koorivlf/status.....76876552396804
And their parent company did more and the site director (and fa twitter) directly supports BLM so they don't have an excuse for not using their ACTUAL PLATFORM PEOPLE USE to say something.
- The furry community in general has problems, but I personally feel is great.
The community on FA though can be real bad. And with how FA works, it can really grow into terrible shit that doesn't feel like it's really addressed

^^^^ This is JUST a small taste of race issues and alt right problems FA keeps around.
That's not even mentioning
- Lack of transparency
- Fa's gender list still has herm for some reason? And as far as I know, they've updated the list and chose to keep it...
- etc
Other sites have their problems too. But FA has a LOT of them. And there's not even good new features to justify the stay lol. The only advantage FA has is in the number of users and it's historical value/people's furry presence already formed around this site. And apps like Postybirb allow for pictures to be posted anywhere, there are programs that do social interactions better, and more. So there's not really a reason to even stay for the social aspect. It just takes time for people to move unless FA does another dumb thing where a bunch of people suddenly leave, again again
People need to leave or demand better. FA COULD do better, it just doesn't... and if it does.... lack of transparency doesn't show it
Though, about the community in general having problems, that's honestly with any community/fandom that gets big enough. You can't control who goes in and does what. In fact, I've seen groups of people who actively infiltrate communities and fandoms literally with the intention of digging dirt and causing drama because they get a kick of messing up other groups.
That is very true! The alt-right folk are such a good imo. Burned furs is a part of history that sort of keeps popping up here and there. However, we can choose to not let such people be welcomed into the fandom and we can choose not to support them.
That doesn't mean the nastier parts of the fandom won't get a following. One of the largest creators on this site is an alt-right/alt-right leaning "intellectual" that shits on transpeople, is racist, etc and they stick around spreading crappy ideas on their art discord and twitter. But if the majority doesn't support such things, the following gets socially limited and eventually becomes niche.
FA will not be the place that limits such people lol. Such people seem to feel safe here besides a few rules FA has legit done good on (not that they enforce them well)
Also this is my offsite as a backup. This is just my 2nd largest following for my works which is not good lol. So instead of passively using another site, I am actively trying to get people to use another site because everyone has the right to advocate for a better site!
Most of the other sites furry artists post to either have no option or a bad option for a fav gallery, e621 having the best one imo since you can search through it so easily via tags, with sites like Twitter and previously Tumblr being terrible since it's impossible to keep an extensive, easy to look over fav gallery there
There's also as you mention a problem that FA seems to be the most populous site, for better or for worse, but it makes it hard to leave this site when your following count is in the hundreds, and it's inconvenient to add yet another site to check if there's only one or two people you follow there
FA might not be perfect, but it works for a lot of people, so it's always a bummer seeing those "leaving FA" journals, especially when they're leaving for Twitter and even moreso when they don't allow their art to be uploaded to sites like e621 (which unfortunately seems to be the case for many)
Again, if only there was a site that had the best of all the worlds, the ease of connection that Twitter has, the uniform tagging system and fav gallery of e621, the sheer number of people FA has, but sadly it seems that the fandom is doomed to always be spread to every corner of the internet, with new sites seemingly coming and going in the span of months with FA being one of the few consistents
You should check out https://weasyl.com, imo their fav gallery is a lot better. You can also add suggest/add community tags to submissions similar to e621, just with author approval.
The main social sites are a great place to get followers and interactions (My biggest followings is twitter and my 2nd used to be tumblr until the purge) Mass social media sites do better in this regard cause that's their primary function for advertisement engagement. The gallery isn't the point which is what FA's gallery fills ya. But Fa's isn't the best around and with other sites being a bigger point of finding others/having more features, FA's role is honestly pretty limited/limiting. Its draw really is furries pointing back to this site as their main gallery.
I don't think the fandom is doomed to spread across the web. If there's a good website people would spread a lot less. There are already better websites but generally the complaint I hear is "lack of userbase" and "lack of content" which is a bad cycle to be stuck in lol. FA was one of the first websites to really connect people in an era where the internet was new. It being a foundational site has made it the go to place for that reason alone. The reason you get "i'm leaving" posts and what not is because the foundation is kinda shit. It is of it's time, and we've made better code/design/etc over the years. We need a better foundation now. We're in an era where good sites have already been built (like weasyl is just better FA) and new ones with these features are being built up currently (like check out https://afterdark.art )
We just have to be active in where the fandom future goes! Or how we want it to go! Just from personal talks there's definitely a gallery and niche community hole people want filled, and FA will just never fill that properly.
