Changes are coming.

My birthday is coming up, and as a personal milestone, I'm using this time to change Rei, to update my fursona. I've always been a shapeshifter, as I love variety, but I think it's time I updated his 'default' form. The new, updated fursona will be uploaded on the 16th, and before then I plan on uploading most, if not all, of my old art. Art that I've failed to upload mostly through laziness, but a few others were out of embarrassment. I'm going to try and answer what I think will be the most common questions (if anyone cares enough to have any, lol), but feel free to ask more in the comments if I miss any, mostly to put peoples minds at ease.
"Why are you changing? are you trying to impress someone?"
No, I'm not changing for anyone's benefit but myself. Like I said, I like variety. Ten years ago i was a fox, then i had a brief stint where I 'was' Seth rather than Rei, then i was a fox-dragon, then a full eastern dragon, and now I just feel like changing again. To be honest, I'll probably change again in five or ten more years, its just what I do!
"If you're a shapeshifter, why 'change' your 'sona at all, why not just add a new form?"
Honestly, the big reason is personal lore, as I work it into my backstory, which admittedly very few people know, but still. Another reason to change the default is it just feels like a bigger change, so helps satisfy by need for variety more, as most of my shapeshifting is all RP fluff anyway, rather than being reflected in art. A third reason is just 'updating' Rei away from some problem areas. For example, periodically I get drawn with a fuzzy lip that looks like a mustache, which i find odd. I also feel my color scheme is a little tricky, coming out as anywhere from Orange to brown to red sometimes.
"Won't changing invalidate all your old art? your stickers?"
I understand this is how some people feel about themselves, that if they change their appearance that its no longer 'them' in their artwork. I don't feel that way, perhaps because I have come up with lore/backstory reasons, but the previous art is just an earlier phase of Rei's/my life.
"I really liked the fuzzy eastern dragon though :c"
And honestly, he doesn't have to fully vanish. I can still get art with 'old rei' if necessary, the magic of shapeshifting and all that. Spoiler for my new form reveal: its scaled, and there are a few circumstances I can think of that fur would be better, involving sweat or saliva or other fluids to get soaked in :p so who knows, he may pop back up if I feel the need or a friend really misses him.
"Its a chrysalis... are you turning into a butterfly?"
No, I just thought a butterfly like cocoon would have been a fun way to go about this x3 was either that, an egg, or a lump of silk, this is what i decided to go with!

but I've had a few friends that I focus grouped the design to that expressed concern, thinking I was changing for the wrong reasons or something, so made this to alleviate any concerns people might have.
For starters, for Pete's sake this is all imaginary XD it's not like you can't instantly imagine it going back and just ignore any changes you made, etc
You do you, explore, make mistakes, take chances, etc.
Heh, tbh pretty curious now what changes you DO make.
Scaly guys can be fun also ^^
