The trans community and my worries~
So just some mini vent going on. Something that worries me about the state of the trans community is the increasing space of people who are getting offended by such words as cuntboy, herm, futa, etc. They get so upset by the usage of such vocabulary that it makes me wonder if more infighting is just going to spring up by people starting the whole "no true Scotsman" fallacy. I am finding it more difficult to get art of my fursona or make friends purely because I label my fursona as a herm. These offended parties get upset over it because they claim it does a disservice to the trans community and that the fact I call my character a herm is a sign that I am not truly trans myself. Eh, people confuse me. @.@
Have a nice day dearie!
Honestly though, people really need to get their shit together and stop being precious little snowflakes.
Lately im finding trans is a fad, i can say that, i am technically trans but dont feel like transitioning would change anything for me. i've known people who are full on fuck anything with a hole male then puts on a female fursuit or crossdresses then "OMG IM A GIRL" which i dont think is how it works. also one of my favourite artists is like "i dont draw anything associated with dick girl, c-boy, herm bla bla bla" well done on removing quite a lot of customers
Anyways, nice to hear from you again dearie! :3
Makes me wish more people would dare to look at it this way rather than clinging on their simple perception of what makes "us".
I suppose many people's thoughts never go down that path as most are comfortable in their bodies..
Fetish terminology is used to describe fetishes.
If you think that being trans is just a fetish to get your rocks off, then keep using fetish terms.
Just don't be surprised then when trans people avoid you.
Maybe I am missing something more to this, though that is what is great about dialogue. We can chat things out to better understand each other, come to an understanding and empathize with each other. And if each others position doesn't change, then all well, we can still go our own separate ways as there can be more pressing concerns in life to deal with.
Hopefully my thought process makes sense, my brain can go off track quite often. @.@
Many people, including myself have learned about the fetish terms first.
Sooner or later we find out or are told about better terms to use.
"First contact" with this really makes a difference.
I've found out on my own and was happy to have ways to describe myself and my characters with respectful language.
Sadly many people are very aggressive and ironically disrespectful when trying to get others to use these terms.
Being told you're wrong and horrible and offensive and whatnot, obviously isn't exactly encouraging.
I'm disappointed with how unforgiving many people are with this.
It leads to a lot of conflict and divide in a community that should be one to support one-another.
We're few enough as it is...
When you use non-fetish terminology it shouldn't be because people demand it.
It should come from understanding what message is sent with the words.
It's easy to track the not-particularly-respectful pornographic origin of words like dickgirl, cuntboy, futa and shemale.
They're as sexually objectifying as slut, whore, etc.
I wouldn't call a cis-woman a "pussywoman". Same way I don't want to be called a dickgirl.
I don't see any reason to use those words other than to intentionally upset others.
Herm is a different case - one that I personally don't find offensive.
While primarily used in porn nowadays, it does ultimately originate as a neutral descriptor.
There might be better solutions for the term, but I don't have the answer to that tbh.
Maybe some of the people who tell you not to use it have a better word?
To sum it up: Dickgirl, cuntboy, futa and shemale are just unacceptable. Those terms are as objectifying and disrespectful as words like slut, whore, etc.
Herm is on a weird middle ground as we don't have a word to exactly replace it and it doesn't originate from porn.
As long as you don't act like ThatGuyWithMultipleCharacters below then you should be fine lol 😅
If using offensive terms is important to you then you need to accept that people will be offended ignore them and move on.
however if you are not happy with people being upset with you then you are the one that needs to change, not them, you liking the increaingly more common perception of these terms is irrelevant.
I would suggest maybe using "intersex" to describe your character, however at the end of the day you can call your character whatever you like, but being stubborn and whining when people are upset isnt a good look for you. do as you will.
Ignoring is a solution, though I do like to understand how others think. So it is always upsetting when people just shut me off rather than wanting to discuss things. It is like a one star review with no comments about the service. It gives you no understanding of the problem and isn't helpful at all. A constructive dialogue is something I always welcome.
