What sort of insects are illegal to own in the U.S., anyway? And why? I'm sort of figuring it's an invasive species thing but I dunno.

Pretty much anything that's not native. Stick insects, beetles, even some species of cockroach are being banned that aren't even a threat to the environment. I know they're illegal for a reason (especially the beetles and stick insects, since they can eat a lot of foliage and crops) but it seems like if you could prove they were kept in tight containers they would be more lenient. I know teachers, scientists etc. can own them with permits, and I DO hope to become a teacher one day.

That really sucks, I had no idea the laws on insect keeping were so strict. Most of my favorite insects are from Africa, lame.

I would totally take your class if you taught science. XD

So how in the world do keep the cages clean?

They don't really get dirty for at least a month or two. Then, I just fish them all out, put them into another container, and re-do their dirt then. It's not easy. XD
