There are certain Republicans/Conservatives who do and say things "to own the Libs" -- that is, to get a reaction from Democrats/Liberals. The list I made is of some of the things I've seen or heard someone say or do to "own the Libs".

regarding a lot of countries around the world (and certain regions in the divided states), they're still there.


as, it's one thing to hold a disagreement over political approaches (which is why it's always a good idea to come to a compromise on the impasse whenever feasible).
but we're dealing with people for whom, more \ less, there is no ability to reason.

we are, for instance, dealing with the direct descendants of individuals who were willing to go to war over their ability to continue enslaving / abusing my people.
people, so willing to hold on to their ability to do the wrong thing, they were willing to kill.
just to give you an idea of what we're dealing with.
just as we still have individuals around, who wish hitler was more successful in his original, self-loathing endeavours.

I think that as societies get more accepting of those who are different the group that depended on these differences separating society (particularly depended on it for having someone "beneath" them socially) gets more afraid and insane. What little power they perceive themselves having seems to be slipping away and they are just incapable of accepting actual equanimity. For them the structure must always be a line. It's impossible to reason with that type of fear.

The rights to exist and be free shouldn't be something up for debate, yet that's how this ends up working out. All horrors as you described are always justified in the minds of the people committing them. That's how evil is. Evil needs justification, but good never does.

but...we do, still, need continue speaking out (and, at some point in time, taking actual, decisive action to uphold it).

a sad thing, that at some point, doing the right thing can be a matter of life_or_death — because we may be cutting into the good times of someone with a vested interest in maintaining shitty circumstances for others.

As we moved from hunting-gathering to agriculture, there came a need for people who would do the labor needed to grow crops and build structures. As long as everyone was willing to do what they could to help there wasn't much issue (except from warring tribes). Once the rich appeared, there became a need to maintain societal divides and to separate those who do the hard work from those who control things. This is what lead to the inequalities of societies and usually the instability that causes them to fall.
