Meaning of a Name
Em Hotep (In Peace)!
When I finally stumbled upon the name Anen I had already gone through two other names for my fursona neither of which really worked for him. Anen sounded short simple and sweet and so I was extremely happy to settle upon it. However I did not know the meaning of the name and found my searches online to discover it rather fruitless. Ultimately, I decided to inquire about its meaning and origins from the highest authority that I as a member of the Kemetic Orthodoxy could think of: the Nisut (Pharaoh) herself. She told me that sadly the name actually is not Kemetic in origin. It is actually Mittanian in origin and Mitanni was an ancient nation in the region we now know as Turkey.
Sadly the true meaning of the name was somewhat uncertain because where it is written in hieroglyphs it is written strangely and is actually grammatically incorrect (typos X3). The name roughly translated means "Bringing Greatness To Us". I had also added -sunhotep at the end of the name which VERY roughly (or VERY loosely) translated means through peace (literal translation most likely is of or from peace). So Anen's name finally has a (again VERY loosely translated) meaning: "Bringing Greatness To Us Through Peace".
The correct pronunciation of the name is ah-NEN with an emphasis on the second syllable and the pronunciation of the later part is soon hotep. So ah-NEN soon hotep. However I have become used and accustomed to pronouncing it as A nen with an emphasis on the A as well as altering it from a short A to a long A sound so I don't mind how it is actually pronounced :3.
Thanks to Hekatawy Alexandros (Rev. Dr. Tamara L. Siuda) {AUS} for this information. It was greatly appreciated!
