Question: Flash VS Gif
After posting this animation ( https://www.furaffinity.net/view/38934309/ ) I got a few messages from people unable to see it from their PCs and/or mobile devices due to Flash-related issues.
Just a little question: Would you prefer to see my animations posted in Flash or as a .Gif file? Just making sure :)

As others have said Flash is effectively dead.
i suggest maybe using WebM for Patreon as it's a Lossless and then making a link post to Mega to the MP4, you can make this 720p and many of us will be fine, we can all get the patreon which would be 1080p and make that into a MP4 through our own means
The browsers aren't even the only ones doing this, mobile operating systems do not support flash at all, and soon Windows will also drop support, literally removing existing installations and blocking it from being re-installed.^
So the short version of "why" exactly this is happening? There's a couple of reasons.
1. Flash has a long and storied history of being... fairly poorly made internally, for more than 10 years it was a prime vector for web based malware attacks. Even to this day emergency security patches are still being released for it because even though it hasn't received a feature update in many years, it's still full of holes, holes that are still regularly exploited by malware. Cybersecurity Industry professionals have for a significant period of time considered it as a vulnerability to any system it is installed on.
2. Flash was originally created to fill a gap in what web browsers were capable of, that being video and interactive content playback, (similar to web based java applets [which are also dead]). Over time browsers grew and improved and eventually surpassed Flash in their own capabilities, leaving it in the awkward position of... not really being needed anymore as a consumer product. Even though Javascript has its own set of issues, it is more than capable of replicating everything Flash could do and more, and is actively maintained by a robust community and official standards body.&
To make it clear: Flash is literally dead, or rather it will be on December 31 2020, when it passes its official "End of Life" date.* After this time unless you have a copy of the standalone Flash Projector, you will have no way to play back .swf files.

I hope that furaffinity allows uploading mp4 or such soon.
if its short though, a gif may work
flash is dead, but gif is only 256 color , apng or webm or webp or mp4 is you choose!!

Kinda sad, I liked flash games and not every one is in flashpoint (flash game preservation effort) but it is what it is.
FA should really support HTML5 or Webm. Or, hell, APNG (tho browser support is not universal AFAIR - like gif but based on PNG so full color instead of 256 colors)
Flash doesn't outside of internet explorer. So save them files, open in internet explorer and enjoy it while it lasts.
I'll just install the plugin version of https://lightspark.github.io/ instead then.
.GIF is proprietary. Nobody seems to care, but support is fading as alternatives arise. It's not necessarily forward-compatible, and it also gets resource intensive at significant resolutions. It's an okay option in the meantime, until FA broadens supported formats—which brings us to:
.WEBM seems pretty solid to me, but as it's created by Google, so I guess Apple isn't playing nice. Also, it's created by Google. Also also, I don't think FA supports it as of this time
Choose your poison.
If you can, upload mp4 somewhere. :)
Bit of a moot point - Flash is dead, and support will soon drop entirely from browsers.
But seeing as it's being discontinued, as others have said, there isn't much choice.
Personally I prefer the Flash file, as it's cleaner and supports more interactivity, but since Flash is going the way of Clippy and Geocities, it's probably wise to use .gif for short loops, and .mp4 or .webm for anything longer.
Oh, remember when Crowchild switched the High Tail Hall 2 prototype from Flash files to grainy movies with shakeycam? And the screen flashes? And the file size? Lol, to think he may have been right in the long run...
