Canceled my spot at the babyfur convention
5 years ago
They asked for a copy of my photo id with most everything marked out but my face name and birth date. And call me paranoid if you want to but I just didn't feel comfortable doing that. I understand their reasons behind it but with no privacy agreement or no promise not to keep it on file or list etc, Im not giving that to random people I don't know for something of a sensitive nature. Its one thing to show up at a meet or convention and show your id for your proof of age its another for someone to have a copy of your real photo name and birthdate. I wish them all the luck but its just something I couldn't do.

Yeah, if it were me, I'd be backing out too. Photo ID and personal information ain't no joke.

That was kinda my thing, I mean even with an agreement there just feels like there isn't much of a guarantee, again I dont really know how to handle it otherwise online but its just not something I can do

Not defending them but from what I hard babyfur cons are often the worst and hotels are known to outright ban people from such. I'm sure there are fine folks in the community but for whatever reason babyfur cons seem to become the most disgusting places from what I heard. I hope I only heard the worst of it and not the good cases but still, if I own a place and for whatever reason I decide to allow a babyfur con (honestly I wouldn't personally) I would be sure to have something so random people causing shit to hit the fan (borderline literal) are forced to be liable for their actions. With that said having no form of written agreement about what they will use the data for is extremely stretchy and you have the right to question it. I wouldn't trust that either. Like I said not defending them but you gotta see their side of things. The alt would be simply not host it at all for them.

Its a Zoom call so a little hard to get kicked out of a place. Its more about them wanting to know everyone is 18+ to attend the online event. I don't fault them for doing it just the way they went about asking for it has my concern and has me questioning if there isn't a better way. At the very least not even linking or listing a promise of privacy is a big no no if you ask me. Specially at an event where I never intended to share my face.

Oh yea, kinda weird in that case. I would be extremely worried then.
