Last week my Dad was involved in a pretty serious car accident. Long story short it was scary as hell. His pick up truck was totaled. It looked like a crumpled up sheet of paper. How my dad survived it is a fucking muricle. Even so my dad spent 3 days in the hospital and will have spent 8 days in rehab by the time he's discharged. Needless to say I'm just glad he's alive.
Anyway.....
I'll have to take care of my dad until he fully recovers and is back up and running again. One of the things I will need to do is give him injections. I'm not looking forward to that since I am squeamish of needles and I do NOT like doing to others what I don't like done to myself. Still it has to be done. No exceptions.
I watched some tutorial videos on how to inject Lovenox which is the blood thinning medication I'll be giving my dad after discharge from rehab. The procedure looks simple enough. But my only worry is the fact I'd be giving this injection to somebody else. I think I'd find it easier to inject myself than another person because I know where my own pain threshold is at and I can mentally work around it. But doing it to somebody else, I'm flying blind. So to anybody out there that gives themselves or receives injections how much pain or discomfort do you feel? The last thing I want is to cause my dad too much pain.

I do regular insuline 2x aday...for me it's easier to do my big belly/abdomen.
BUTT...(There's always a butt...)
Be sure to follow the instructions and recommendations of course (Remember I'm not a medical blahblashblah...)
IF you can, get the SMALLEST needles possible!!!
I use 31 gauge...
The LARGER the number the SMALLER the stabby stab...
Hurts less...usually...
ALSO get the best leangth of needle for the use/s...if he's literally thick skinned like me he MIGHT need a longer needle...
Also check with your dad to find the best place for him...
Does the shot NEED to be intra muscular (in a muscle)?
Or subcutaneous (In the fat just under the skin)?
The intra muscular then the best is prolly the upper thigh/the quadriceps (Like an epipen) but honestly I don't know on those...
if it's sub cue then the abdomen or the back of the upper arm (Some folks say the inside of the upper thigh I say NONONO!!!)
I've never had to do intramusc...
for the sub cue, pinch up about an inch of skin (Look up the old special k pinch an inch commercial) and hold it away from the muscle then shoot into the fold...
If you shoot into the belly (If he's big like me) just find a spot ABOVE or BELOW where he wears his belt/waistband...
Constant rubbing on that spot will aggravate ALOT!
Be sure just to NOT shoot into muscle...
I Like to shoot fast, It gets it over quicker...
I'm not sure about the drug/father needs so...
hunt for a spot that hurts the LEAST...
some times you still hit a nerve and that hurts!!!
Just don't shoot there again...
ALSO it's very important that you rotate shot sites if it hurts too much...
It's a BAD idea to keep shooting the same place...
It's best to keep good communications with your dad, if you see him cringe, be sure he's ok.
Do not let him macho-up.
There's NO reason in this day and age to suffer needlessly.
And again, FOLLOW ALL your med professionals instructions/advice! I am NOT a med pro!
ALSO some times the doc/s/nurse/s can teach you in the office...
Good luck and positive vibes to your dad and you!
If it really bugs you, you might also concider asking the docter to put in a temporary injection port. This would allow easy access for injections and in barelly noticable. All you'd need to do is make sire to keep it clean to avoid infections.
Either way good luck.
I would suggest that you get your dads nurse to either show you how to do it...or better yet talk you through it in the doctors office/clinic or wherever. That way you wont be going in "blind)
Been on both sides of the syringe. Personally, I dont feel much at all when receiving. Dont like diving, but as you say "it has to be done".
Once you have done it a couple of times, it will not be any issue at all. Hang in there. and good luck to your dad. =^.^=
