A pretty late collection, work's been keeping me busy!
A podcast about Cockatrices: Friend, or Fiend? The split tongue knocks off some points, charisma-wise? But they thought Cockatrices were cooler than what D&D let us be. Yesssss. I don't remember petrification lasting only 24 hours, though. That must be an update. "This is like if Donald Duck was a gorgon." And a cool alternate name: "Statue Chicken." Gotta get ourselves some gay rooster eggs.
More to listen to in the background: a group story performance, The Basilisk's Stare. It'd be a fun activity in lockdown, especially if you had a basement! It's by Sabrina Hahn, whose last name means rooster in German. Hmmmmmm. I feel the heroine was kind of rude in not even trying to find out the basilisk's name, and I question the wisdom of her father, leaving all those mirrors in easy reach of a minor!
And speaking of live performances, The Basilisk which seems about Roko's basilisk. Calling all actors, calling all actors...
Some sort of psychic blog post about a clairvoyant girl being pestered by a fae basilisk/cockatrice spirit thing? Another one with those mirrors, sheesh. There ought to be regulations about just how many reflective surfaces can owned by private citizens without some sort of permit!
Found on Reddit first, but it's also on YouTube? SCP Entries! I'm glad we made the list.
And another Reddit post: A kobold in a cockatrice costume!

It's only when you have a collection of statues..a statuary..that it becomes a legal problem.
One at a time? Nah, that's not illegal yet.
Yeah. Monsters have gotten easier from 3.5 onwards. Nothing really sticks anymore, and while still very playable, the DM has to work a bit harder to keep the game challenging.
Or cheat! :D
But yeah - nothing really has teeth anymore - I'm not saying it's the DM's job to kill the players...
...but part of the DM's job is to make sure that the players feel challenged, and sometimes that means inducing potential lethality.
I sure hope so. :>
