Something that pisses me off.

Not just people begging for free art, someone begging for free art using a sob story.
For some reason it just hit a nerve. I'm glad he found something to do during difficult times, but it shouldn't mean anyone owes him anything and shouldn't pertain to his message. Notice the project isn't even anything to do with his father in any way.
He's asking for others time, why should they give that to him? He doesn't know them, he didn't even take the time to send individual emails. He's not even watching the people. It's just the entitlement and he's unappreciative for an artists time, especially in these difficult times.
Here's the note (it didn't annoy me as much until I got it sent to BOTH my DA accounts.
Hello! I am currently making a film titled "Journey of Heroes". The film is an anime film that I have been working on for some time. Let me lay some background information...
Just last year, my father was diagnosed with Lung Cancer from years of smoking. During this time, I began writing this story in order to cope. Not only is it an incredible journey for the characters in my film, but also one for me, which is something I would like to share with the world. The story is about a young girl who is thrust into a magical world that is seperated by war by two sides: the Industrialists who believe in moving forward and upgrading their way of life, and the Naturalists, who believe that the old ways should be used forever. During the girl's travels, she meets many new characters, including a love interest with a secret past. There is much more to this story, but I do not have the space to tell it all (plus I do not want to give it all away :)). I have always been into filmmaking, and I want to give anyone and everyone a chance to be a part of this huge project that has been started and being taken notice on YouTube. I have many people who have auditioned for this film, and I have over 50 characters up for audition as of late.
My goal is to have many different animators and musicians, as well as others who have been interested in film. For example, one episode may be designed differently then the next because a different animator made that episode. Also, I believe that a film should have different sounds, music and tone, in order to make it more realistic. So, I will be needing many musicians to score my film. I already have many talented artists on Youtube, but I am still looking for more. A film should have many voices, and this one shall too.
I am currently looking for:
animators
storyboard artists
sound effects persons
musicians
promotional artists
I want to make this a large, fanbased project that unites aspiring musicians, voice actors and animators. I want to tell my story to the world through your talented ways. If you are interested, please send me a message at journeyofheroes[at]hotmail.com or PM me here. Thank you, and I hope that you will consider this great opportunity in the world of anime.

This journal makes me sounds really nasty probably XD But if he'd of asked in a more personalised note, and maybe watched/favourited to show he actually LIKES the work I'd have sent him a more polite note back explaining why not.
Personally if I were him; I would pay for a nice pic of myself and pop together. NOt this whole anime/movie crap.
If anything sounds like he expects to get the work for free. What's to stop him from taking his 'fresh idea' to somoene else; y'know with the funding to be able to do stuff like this. It's all just crazy IMO.
If the story motivated me after my Dad died or whatever, I might pay for a scene from the story with my dad in. That is, assuming his Dad did die, or was ill...
There's also many artists in the projects section of DA willing to do that kind of thing with someone, but that would actually require him using his brain and effort.
Though maybe they're not up to the quality which he expects, which is equally stupid, because without money, he won't find any good artists to take it on.
....opportunity, fanbased.
I have a strong feeling that this is all expected for free...

It's not like this unprofessional project, made by a guy who hasn't worked in any industry related to anime or films before would lead to anyone making a career in anime anyway, not least because there -are- no careers in anime X_X (for asians, let alone westerners!)
I've read that before, I try not to read it again because it just makes me too angry :( I don't know why artistic skills aren't valued, it's not like it hasn't been proven to bring in massive amounts of new business to a company!
Its just when someone who I dont really know from FA asks to be a contact on AIM or MSN, (not that this has really happened yet) but I get annoyed when they do it just to get some art or whatever lol
I
"fan-based" usually connotes it is a story based by FANS of a previously written work.
So that "story" he's "written" most likely has been published and written about somewhere else.
And seriously, if he really wanted his work put out there, why doesn't he--oh, I don't know--seek publishers for the work itself? It'd be an effort, but hey if he's putting in the time to try and get people on board just to do a damn MOVIE about this "project", then it's not gonna be that much more effort in my opinion.
You know what, I've just thought - he's asking for peoples time, time they could be spending with their own families and fathers.
It would be a much nicer thought for his father if he set up some kind of project or competition that involved fathers in some way, involving them or drawing something about them, that would be quite sweet :)
I've heard so many sob stories from dishonest artists begging for commissions/donations, and instead of using said money to pay bills/important things, they just blow it. I've also seen people begging for free art numerous times because they're going through a "crisis". I don't like people who try to play on the sympathies of others. DX And that's what it sounds like this dude is doing.
Instead of just saying "I'm making a film and I want free art to put in it." he had to throw in a sob-story which may or may not be true so that he could get something for free...
I sound so jaded and grumpy... >.>; But stuff like this really irritates me too...
I've also seen so many people begging for art because of a hard time, it's annoying and it doesn't even help them deal with it, so it's pointless. We all have hard times, yes, even us artists, surprising, I know! :O We find ways through it, especially those trying to make a living out of it... We don't need people we don't know adding to our problems.
Haha I'm having a grumpy day too today, let's be grumpy buddies lol :D
A mention of his dad really has no place in there, as you said. Everyone goes through hard times and MOST people can pull themselves out of them without begging...ooooooh there's been so much moochery going on lately! lol.
haha awesome X3 I have a grump-buddy! *grump!*
XD When we're all old and stuff I'll go and find you, and then the universe will possibly implode from so much grumpyness in one place lol :D
and how the heck is making your dream anime story going to help your dad get better from cancer?
Ugh, I'm insulted now. -_- I share your irritation.
lol did you reply and how did he take it? XD
I replied, quickly and shortly telling him to stop spamming me and playing on people's sympathy, I haven't seen how he's answered yet, I'm also reporting him.
I think he is anime rather than furry, this was on my DA, he obviously didn't bother to look at my gallery at all... X_X My other account has a piece called anime, so he probably found me through that.
Most of them seem to be non-artists, which I guess would explain that they dont understand the work that goes into a piece of art. The stuff doesnt draw itself. And it seems to be the medium of art that this only happens in. In no other type of job do you get people who expect you to do it for free. My usual response is asking them if they have a job and if so how they'd feel if their boss asked them to pull an 8 hour shift completely unpaid. Or whether they'd like to come and paint my house for nothing.
Strangers don't owe anyone a damn thing, yet there's this preconception that those with artistic talent should use their time and skills **just for me** because I am a special snowflake.
I feel really angry about the fact that people don't recognise how much time goes into art, I think because they think we enjoy it, it's no big deal. They don't see how much frustration and boring repetitiveness there is in it. It is hard work.
its annoying and weird and I don't want to read about your maybe-tragic past.
