Furry art economics (information)
What does a country's average income, foreign exchange rate, and cost of living mean for furry art, and particularly for commission prices?
Essentially, for example, a Canadian artist who isn't living in one of the big expensive coastal cities might be able to afford to take art commissions for somewhat less (perhaps as low as two-thirds) of what an artist living in the United States would need to charge in order to be able to make a living doing art commissions. There are actually a lot of Canadian artists on FA, I can easily think of several.
This effect isn't limited to between countries, since even within a large country like the USA or Canada or Russia, it is easier to make a living as an artist in a location that has a lower cost of living (e.g. Madrid, New Mexico) rather than in a big and expensive city (like New York or Vancouver). Artists in places like Poland, Russia, Argentina and Brazil can afford to have even lower commission prices (in USD or Euros), and artists in countries like Ukraine and India could probably afford to have some of the lowest commission prices on the net (why aren't there more furries from India? someday there probably will be!). However, there are economies that are (currently) worse than Ukraine or India, many of them are in central Asia, or sub-Saharan Africa, or island nations.
After I met several 'starving artists' (almost literally) through FA, I decided to educate myself about the economies of places like the post-Soviet countries and South America. I would have researched sub-Saharan Africa too but I couldn't think of any furry artists in Africa (yet). The statistics for some of them are quite stark.
unfortunately, it is difficult to get a table to display well on FA
