***************************************************************** RE: FA's recent announcement (which was, QUOTE: On Wednesday, January 6th 2021, an armed insurrection of Trump supporters directly instigated by the President himself assaulted the Capitol building in an attempt to overthrow America's democratic process. This assault was fueled by conspiracy theories that are not only lacking evidence, but have also been dismissed by courts in over 50 lawsuits. This seditious attack resulted in the desecration of our US Capitol and at least 5 deaths. Lawmakers and experts have identified these rioters as domestic terrorists. We at Fur Affinity agree and will be taking immediate action upon any users or content sympathizing with or promoting this terrorist attack upon our country.)
I 100% agree with this.
I'm a cis white woman with hetero-passing privileges that grew up in an upper class, conservative household. I know I fucked up in a lot of ways in my teens and even 20's. Which is why it's important to me to make sure I'm not silent on this shit because of a need to appear "unbias" or "likeable", because I don't want my silence to be misconstrued by anyone as having even the tiniest bit of tolerance for this kind of right-wing extremism. What's going on right now - what's BEEN going on for a long time - is NOT ok.
If their announcement or my views have made you angry, or you are one of the users "sympathizing with or promoting this terrorist attack", you are welcome to unfollow me now. In fact, I encourage it.
And while we're saying things that should be "well duh, of course" but somehow make a few people angry anyway: Black Lives Matter, Trans Rights, Indigenous Lives Matter, and Nazi Furs Fuck Off.
I know there are many more who deserve specific acknowledgement, so forgive me if you've been left off. If you are part of a group that is just trying to live your life but has been routinely singled out, pushed down, silenced, told to "get in your place", even faced persecution & violence just for being who you are - I see you, I hear you, and for what good my word is worth, I stand with you. <3
