I noticed that,but wouldn't really call it annoying,you have your reasons and who am I to judge,I always see how thoroughly you prepare for a change and let people know about it,amount of confusion is minimal and both artist and watchers are satisfied!

Honestly, FA should just update to let people make username changes, and just update watchers about the change. I've been wanting to capitalize part of my name for years, and I can't even do that.
Best advice I can give you for trying to change is to go through with all the work. People that just drop everything and create a new account take forever to rebuild their audience, and that can just be painful for some. It might be tedious and annoying, but keeping this account up and advertising for the new page really is the best way to transition to the new account on this site.

I was wondering it could be devastating for the amount of data they'd have to keep? I have zero knowledge of how this works tho ^^'
surely I wouldn't just leave without saying a word,I thought of promoting new account maybe once a week for a couple of months,still accepting commissions here but posting them on new page,sorta constant reminder that im still here just on new page.

I would take all your artwork, upload and import to your new account.

Make a new submission on this account, saying 'ACCOUNT MOVED' and point it towards the new account!

This way, any other websites pointing at your username here (e621 etc) will still point here and people looking for your current account can find it easily!

I'm in the same boat. I'm Xianyu everywhere else but I don't want to figure out a way to follow all of the same artists and whatnot on a new account... ugh.

I honestly thought about it,but I am horrified about re uploading about 900 submissions O_O I would make sure to write everywhere on old account about moving like in the description area,journals and shouts + post a pic with it,thats all that comes to my mind at this point

yeah I tend to have a confusion when I search for the artist on other platforms and they just have different username unlike they mark on their art (I do understand its not always their fault)

If you go to a new account... then you won't be watching anyone any more! You have to re-watch artists!

I've had this account for... so long. I'm following 717 artists/writers/creators. I'd have to go through each and every single one on a new account and re-watch them!

And as for other websites: E621 usually links to your current picture post for the source. So if you delete your gallery on this account, when people follow those links trying to see who you are/follow you, all they'd see is 'this submission was deleted' and no further information. So you can't really delete the posts either if you care about that kind of thing...

But look at it another way! Better sooner, rather than later: Do you want this name to be your public facing forever? No? Well why wait until you have 1000 art pieces that need to be ported over? Or 1100? Better to make a plan and bite the bullet because it won't ever get easier! (Unless FA instituted a name-change ability, which I doubt they will lol).

The other alternative is to go 'hey, NEW ME!' and cease posting here, make a journal, a submission, a shout, etc, about you moving, and just start afresh on a new account only posting new things there! And keep this old account as a permanent gallery of the things you drew right up until the end of 2020!

Rally some of your friends and artists with 1k+ 10k+ watchers, and tell them, that we want FA to give us the name change options! Then gather a f*ckton of FA users, and "soft-spam = 1 post only and only on a certain fixed day" Fender's account with the simple shout: "Give us the Name change option, please!"

See if that results in anything! Could be, if there are enough people to participate...or Fender locks the shout box and there will be a new update on the matter...

I mean, you have like 7k+ watchers and I have 2k+ watchers...Others might have around these numbers as well. Pick up the charge, and rally the troops! It's a cause that is long overdue, and most importantly (according to crazies)....unisex. All would welcome the name change feature! Even if once a year, or for a day in a year only event. It would be neat!

the program "postybirb" is a mass uploader that can help but honestly it might be impractical to do all our art from here. so my advice is upload your favorites from here to the new one and have a link both from the old one t the new one and from the new one to the old one so people can see all your art.

over time if you remember an old pic you liked you can upload it to the new one and hey free content if you are in an art slump!

either way don't delete the old art uploads. people may have faved and all that.

great idea with posting over time,some stretch might help to gain more people !

The best way I've seen an account transfer handled was this.

- Make new account.
- Set it up with social links and designs and pfp and etc.
- Post some old/all/new art on it to help confirm it's you.
- Announce your new account on your old/current one at least once or twice a week for a solid month via submission picture AND journal so that way as many watchers as possible see it.
- Eventually leave this account alone with a "moved" pfp but leave the gallery alone to it serves as an Archive, and of course have it linked in the new one.

Also why FA staff for whatever reason absolutely refuse to implement username change or a blacklist is absolutely beyond human understanding.

ikr? people upload their work at least TWICE on different accounts,how is it more helpful than a name change..

Oh god. As sad as it is you should make peace with the thought that you will lose a lot of watchers during the move, like a lot a lot.
Another thing to mention, if you're going to upload old submissions to the new account, do it BEFORE letting people watching it, so you don't spam anyone's watchfeed.
And maybe make a free raffle or something like that on the new account and advertise on old, people are more motivated by free stuff :)

as for the watchers - i don't really care about the numbers,I only want to let people know that its still me and they can trust me as an artist. Those who really watch me won't miss all the spam Im gonna unleash about my moving and will follow.Those who won't just might not be interested in me anymore,its totally understandable

Ugh. The username bit really could benefit alot of people on FA.
Just let us change our old, awkward or outdated username.

Heck, the staff could even make it so that it requires a verification from the backend to decrease abuse of the feature.

exactly! DA requires to have their paid feature CORE, at least it makes people think twice before changing their names. Surely I wouldn't want it to be like on Twitter where you can change your displayed name like every 5 seconds, maybe time limit like once a year could do the trick! so many possibilities yet FA crew somehow misses them
