Clicking on a picture in FA (or right clicking it in most browsers and clicking view image) allows for seeing a browser-fitting scaled image. As such, it's alright to upload larger images as it's really simple for viewers to get it to just fit to their screen. Smaller images can't be scaled anywhere near as well though. Personally I used 2560px for the largest side of an image. It's a decent medium without being a large file.

The problem is when you use a browser that only has maximum zoom in or zoom out with one click (like me lol). I like it a lil zoomed in when there is interesting detail, but never more than say ~1000x1500 to 1200x1800 in 2:3 ratio images. If you really <must> zoom closer than that to see everything right, I think the artist did a compositional mistake. Of course this doesn't apply to comic strips, but they shouldn't be wider than ~1500 pixels either depending on the panel layout in my opinion.

I upload the maximum size I was given / allowed. This means people with high res monitors will get the best quality possible, lower res monitor people will still get the best quality possible. If it's bigger than their screen the browser should resize it to fit the screen, same if downloaded and viewed in a local picture viewer.

So ya, I upload the maximum size. If it goes over the file size max I'll switch to JPG and reduce the quality before I reduce the size. Due to advancements in JPG quality settings there's not much quality loss but reducing size has a noticeable effect. Kind of why you don't really need anti-aliasing on 4k/8k since there's enough details in the lines that it's not jagged.

Big all the way, if you tap download on mobile you can zoom easily, as it opens the image alone.
I usually tend to resize my comms a little maybe 2/3 or 3/4 of the original size, because of art theft and such, so that no one has the original version basically, but it's still big enough to zoom in.

I prefer pictures at their original size, it mostly doesn't cause issues at all.
FA offers a smaller sitze by default and else you can tell your browser to show just the picture in the tab to have it screen fit or to have an easier look at it.
