-He encounters a mimic that likes to lick a bit /too/ much.

-A hungry naga poisons and tries to get a dinner out of the kobold.

-A scaly druid offers to "aid" the kobold with his "problem".

-A rogue goblin roughs the kobold some~

Keeping them somewhat ambiguous on purpose, as before, none are fatal, mimic will /not/ vore the bold as to continue the story, and all of them will leave some adverse effect on him after they're done, because that is FUN >:)
