Making a computer last almost seven years is a good stretch. Depending on what you want to do getting a decent enough computer shouldn't be too hard. Even getting a 2Gig one should be sufficiant I think. You don't game very much on them do you? :p

As it just so happens, computers are my bread and butter. I work with them regularly and know good specs inside and out.

Sorry ya feelin' down. In case ya missed the news a month and a half ago, mine started not tuning on either. Turns out the motherboard needed to be replaced (took them WAAAAAY too long to figure it out). I'm getting it back very soon. If you can look into figuring out a repair possibility, I suggest it.....

get one with a duo processor.... 2 processors make a world of difference the more you have the betters. I have it on my desktop, and not on my labtop. Oh and lots of memory and RAM.

Laptop: Cannot livestream, cannot play music while playing the game, severe lag on the game in certain areas, photoshop and gimp don't have unlimited deleting.

Desktop: *Can do all the the things mentioned that the labtop can't*

Maybe it'd also help getting a not-so-resource-demanding OS for that Laptop.

maybe look for some computer stuff on https://www.tigerdirect.com or https://www.newegg.com -- any computer you get will be much faster than the one you had. I recommend a dual core one cause you can get more bang for the buck right now with them (and are better utilized by today's software). At least 2gb of memory. Etc. Will probably set you back around $500-800 depending on what you want to get.

I know how you feel when it comes to getting a new computer I don't understand much about specs unless I get someone who is spec savvy, and I graduated from a high level IT course XD anyway hope it all goes well and you will be alright Jen *comforting huggles* again like I said on DA it may pass how you feel once you get all the stuff sorted to get back into your usual routine maybe n_n

Can't help with much, though I suggest in terms of processors, get an AMD-one, can't go wrong with those. : 3

Here are a few hints as to look out for when buying PC-stuff: More Processors are better! They are experimenting with more and more
Cores at the moment so if you want your PC to last, buy at LEAST a Dual Core, Quad is better, though. BUT be aware that a
Quad core 1.8 Ghz will suck worse than a single core. You need at least 3 Ghz per Core.
About RAM, more is better but higher DDR isn't necessarily so. You can't really tell the difference between DDR2 and DDR3 so go and
get some DDR2 Ram, 4 Gigabyte Units, if possible, and 2 of those for 8 Gig RAM total.
I can't say what kind of Graphics Card you want/Need since I dunno how many games you play and how graphics-intense they are.

And here is the most important bit...do NOT get Vista! Vista sucks at the moment...propably will forever. It is a simple
Placeholder for Windows 7. I would advice staying with Win XP for a while till they put out a couple fixes for Win 7, then change to
that.

If you need a PC only for Internet and Work I would say it schould have 3 GB RAM if you have Windows 7 or XP. Vista needs 4GB. But 7 is better. Not safer but faster! So I did read about it. Hard disk schould have 100GB till 500GB. I don't know how much Bytes You mostly need. A good Grafic card you only need for 3D Programms or new Games. Which I can't say I don't know what you do on your computer. a good CPU is allways good I don't know much about them. 2GHz or more are allways good for CPUs. More GHz means the PC works faster.My PC did cost whithout other hardware and with XP so under 1000Euro. this schould be ... 1.451,87 US Dollar.... oh... many.... If you would do on your Hard disks also some partitions it would also be faster and with a account for working or something with not so much rights it can be safer. If I could help you in real I would do it!
