I had some great campaigns with my old crew, playing play-by-post, but those forums were shut down by the owners, and sites like Disqus and Discord etc are poorly optimised towards PBP.
There's sites like RPol, but their moderators can be a trifle draconian. My current group has a potential GM, but that game could be years off.

so what do i do

Well, you could join up any of the PBP sites, there's still a few. I only have experience with RPol, all of it negative.
If you do manage to find a decent TT forum, please let me know, it's been years, and I'm still jonesing.

oh a forum game. I guess that's better in terms of accessibility but i mean like a real time campaign. Tabletop simulator and the like. Which I know close to nothing about since i'm on my own

Maybe Discord would work for that. Or Skype. I'm sure there's groups for that you could beg around. Actually most groups would bend over like Catholic choirboys for a good campaign artist to draw their characters, so you could theoretically art whore to get in.
