Alright so one of my friends makes these cute adopts right? I told her she should sell the base line arts and get some extra cash. Their cute little chibi animals right so like literally 3-6USD is what she is charging. Like little cute goats and foxes and cat bases right super simple doodles for her that she uses once or twice for adopts and then doesn't use them again. ANYWAY so she posts this doodle and a few of her friends myself included were like "hey offer this as paid base we want it" So she does and a few of us buy it and she posts it here on FA.
I kid you F#$@ing not the second or third comment is "Why do you never offer any of these bases for free? I hope you do a free one soon :'( " The base had 3 tail options a full body feral chibi and ear option for 6$... So.. I like commented to them like "Hey I know you probably meant it lightly but Artists need to be paid, they have families and bills to pay. Think about that sometimes <3"
Go to their freaking profile page... its mostly colored bases of their OC a few I've purchased myself for like 10-15$ dollars so 6$ should not be the big issue here. Secondly... at the top of their page is a list of "Dislikes" and I kid you F#$@ing not its literally : " Dislikes: - being left out from receiving any OC artworks - art raffles (cause I never win in any of them) not getting picked for art drawings - artists not wanting to draw my OCs - artists/colorists who doesn't want to color/draw my OCs" And the kicker.... "Bullies"
Yet here they are BULLYING an artist.. because they are asking to be PAID for their hard work.. so that someone else can USE those lines for their own adopts/commissions.
So... I'm sure this person is probably young, they maybe don't realize what the harm is in doing or saying these things... But let me give you a gentle reality check. WE ARTISTS DO NOT OWE YOU OUR TIME, OUR ART, OUR SERVICES, OUR GOD DAMN NICETIES to people / children who think the world revolves around them. You want something for free. Ok sure, I don't see the harm in asking "Hey do you do any requests or do you have any bases that are free to use?" If the answer is yes? AWESOME get yourself some freebies! If the answer is NO? REFUCKINGSPECT that answer! Don't F#%@ing whine and moan about how "No one ever does anything for free, No one ever picks your character for freebies, You NEVER EVER win Raffles!"

NONE OF THOSE STATEMENTS MAKES ARTIST WANT TO GIVE YOU ANYTHING! Honestly by making those statements PERSONALLY as an artist I NO LONGER WANT TO TAKE MONEY FROM YOU FOR A COMMISSION. You aren't a client I want.
So yeah...

It's funny how the people who whine the loudest about never getting anything for free are, in my experience, the same ones who are the least likely to appreciate it or say thank you when they do.
I have sympathy for those folks who want to be able to commission art, or buy bases, but can't afford it. That sympathy fades pretty damn fast when they try to guilt trip someone like that. It's just such a shitty thing to do.
There's people i meet who thinks they get stuff for free. And some doesnt accept a "No" as an answer, and turn aggressive. I respect your work. If I Win a Raffle from you, I would be happy. But If i dont Win, it's ok, it's just a Raffle.
