March Madness [Update, a little heavy]

We made it through February.
Look at that.
One month to the next, we keep going on.
I was in the affected area of Texas- who wasn't, truly?- we lost power for about 40 hours, with an hour of power after 36. Thirty-six. We have a pet snake, and the only way we kept her from freezing was by tucking her up against our stomachs, and we were some of the lucky ones. There was a mayor, a person people look to for guidance in strife, who said that those asking for help were nothing, were parasites, unworthy of help. People died. People laughed at the plight, made jokes because our state chose to deregulate the power grid, and to isolate it from the national grid. I'm from Minnesota. The grid there was -fine-, like it is every year, because they're built to take it.
Many of those that suffered had nothing to do with the decision. They were too young, and the last major storm hit 30 years ago. They tried to blame natural solutions as being ineffective, but if the power companies had winterized, those near-50 people wouldn't have died, water pipes wouldn't have burst. People probably lost their fish and other pets. Other people, who didn't lose power, were charged literal THOUSANDS of dollars.
I'm very tired. I'm so tired of people shouting that progressive things aren't helpful, and say that they're the reason things fail, when it's straight up corporate greed that costs us in blood and tears.
And now, Governor Abbot has announced a lifting of the Mask Mandate.
I'm immuno-compromised. I work from home, but my fiancee does not. Neither does my housemate's husband. At least two times a week, I've heard about customers not wearing masks. The brief times we go grocery shopping, I see bare faces. At least three.
I don't have health insurance, because I don't qualify for the Health Marketplace because I don't make -enough- for assistance, but Texas didn't expand medicare, so I fall through the cracks. If I get sick, I die.

Sketchpage: 45+ for three sketches
Semi-Custom of a Species: 40 (flat full body (off-base) with a palette- you give me a theme and colors you like, 1-2 WIPs)
Chibis: 20+
Headshots/Icons: 15+ Flat, 30+ Shaded
Elbows/Shoulders up: 40+Flats, 55+ Shaded
Fullbody: 80+ Flats, 110+ Shaded
Additional Characters: x0.75 Base Price each (Example: Two characters, Full-Body, Flats: 80 for first character, +60 for second character)
Detailed Backgrounds: Final Price +100% ((Example: A 2 character Full-Shaded with detailed background would be about 385. 110 for 1st character, 82.50 for second, and then 192.50 for the background.))
Ref Sheets start at 140 (Front+Back, Fancy Palette) and go up depending on how much more detailed you like.
I require payment upfront, and will refuse work I'm not comfortable with, such as but not limited to: vore, gore/snuff/abuse, micro/macro, hyper, excessively exaggerated anatomy, bathroom play, transformation, and anything to do with children in NSFW situations.
I'm also not a huge fan of horror, but that's a spectrum, y'know?
Alright, still here? Here's some things I absolutely love to draw, as an aside: scars, characters of pretty much any body shape- dadbod? Hell yeah. Lithe? Let's go. Curvy Cutie? Come right this way~!, ferals, anthros, and pretty much any species in between, any gender, any sex, romantic pairs/groups (because my god they hOLD HAND), bondage, chibis- really, the list just keeps going.

I guess all one can do when surrounded by fools is to take as many precautions as you can while you wait and hope sensibility returns soon. Stay safe out there and I hope no idiots hassle you for taking the necessary actions to protect yourself! <3
But that's not strictly true, as found family can replace blood family and be the better option.
Great to hear that it passed! Shame that the amounts got reduced before that happened, but something is better than nothing. No worries! I agree with you on these things being beyond purely political and I wouldn't expect you to act as though these highly worrisome developments didn't affect you. Hell, I'm a straight white male and I find the way things are going to be very concerning!
I feel like things are building to a breaking point and I'm not sure what that will mean for America as a country and a people. Honestly it feels like things have gotten too big to manage, too much power and influence in too few hands, also frequently the hands of those without a care beyond their own desires.
I'm not sure what to expect anymore. Civil war? Anarchy? Despotic police-state? Scary uncertain times and a future full of worrying possibilities. Which isn't to say things are unfixable! The state of things is only beyond fixing when those making the decisions are unwilling to do anything to fix things!
But... That's why I worry. I don't really trust that those making the decisions will be willing.
So for now, I just putter along, trying to do what I can to improve my life and that of those around me. To spread good things instead of hate and divisiveness. Until I get a job and can afford to help others financially, that's about all I've got. (well, aside from voting, but that's a whole other mess)
I'm not fond of living in interesting times, when history is being made.
But, for better or worse this is the world we inherit, eh?
Gotta make the best of it we can, however we can.
