During the Cultural Revolution in China in the 1960s, all cultural and artistic and spiritual artifacts, memes and artworks were singled out and destroyed. It mirrors the same thing that is happening with "Cancel Culture." The goal is to completely destroy all culture so that the population is forced to create culture within the new Communist Party framework. All new artworks made after the Cultural Revolution were created under heavy censorship which forced all of the artwork to look the same and to primarily focus on praising the fake "accomplishments" (which again, were fake) of the Communist party.

Over here in Bong land Twitterites have been ree-ing over a woke satirical show being, well, cancelled. I stopped watching it early on because even when I agreed with many of the things being said it was so clearly aping US partisan stuff like the Daily Show, complete with the main host mugging smugly for the camera. The highlights of the episodes I watched were when a well mannered right wing working class comedian did stuff and popped the bubble for a few minutes.

I don't see why anyone would watch new content when it is all monopolized political programming with a thin veil of secondary "entertainment."

There are decades of older content available. I recommend Aeon Flux, The Mighty Boosh, Spongebob seasons 1-4, Invader Zim, Heavy Metal, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Sealab, and all the studio Ghibli. There is also a lot of recently translated old media surfacing.

Watching my way through Armored Trooper Votoms at the moment. Despite being made by many of the same people who also made early Gundam series the difference in plotting and tone are very stark. Also some of the soundtrack is vaporwave as h e c k

Well the people behind Tina's Story not only got canceled, they are being threatened with legal action of imprisonment because the writer wouldn't play ball with somebody on this site.

So, yeah, it's all out of control.

As for the character of Pepe, I guess he'll be always fondly remembered, but I imagine he should be remembered for being very funny and a cautionary tale of, "Date women, but not like this".
