A mpreg thought

So Liam is special, like most people who draw preg suffs characters are, where he can gestate any species, but he's a relatively small fen, under 5 ft and usually the shortest guy in the room. Because of that, combined with his species, his gestation time is shorter than average.
So what if he got pregant with something like a cow or an elephant that requires much longer gestation periods because they are so big? His body would signal its time to go into labor, but the baby wouldn't be ready, so his womb would have to be forcibly plugged to prevent harm to the young, but his body would still be in labor. So he's force to carry the cub to term while dealing with labor pains for several extra weeks, unable to give birth until the time is absolutely right.....
mmmmmmm, my mind is a kink factory sometimes and it likes to wonder, but I thought I'd share the places my mind likes to go to.

For example, the TV and Movie trope of "Water Breaking" is not always how labor begins. In fact, it usually isn't.
The "Water" is actually a fluid filled sac that the baby is incased within, inside of the mothers womb. More often, the Amneotic Sac, or "caul" is usually still intact until the pushing stage begins, in humans and wild animals alike. It is the birthing process that breaks it open. However, if the Water Breaks early, before the baby is all the way out, it triggers a sort of Emergency Labor response, as the baby can not survive inside the womb after it breaks.
That is just one example of how the state of the baby can influence when and how birth takes place instead of the mother.
Honestly, I think it makes more sense that there would be more compromise involved. Smaller mammals gestate their young in 2 to 4 months, while humans take 9, horses take 11, and Elephants more than a year, if I remember right. If an animal with a 4 month gestation was carrying the offspring of an animal with a 10 month gestation, the result would likely be a 6.5 month geststion and an underweight at birth (compared to average) but otherwise healthy baby, as its mothers body was pushing things along at a faster pace. It would likely be exhausting for the mother though, as the baby(ies) would be demanding an extraordinary amount of nutrition and energy to develop. The childs developmental hormones would be detected by the mothers body and help set the pace, both demanding more, while also signaling they are "not done yet" until they reach the right milestones.
Of course, things can throw this off, which is why both "Preemie" and "Overdue" babies exist as well.
As long as Liam eats well, stays active and gets regular checkups to make sure things are not too off balance, his babies should come out happy, healthy, and right when they need to.
