I never tried the game itself, not even the demo, but I swear 99% of the negative reviews keep saying one exact same word:
"disappointing"
If that's all they have to say, I don't believe said negative review, because you didnt explain anything. Makes me believe that the demo, at the end, says "please review this game as "disappointing" so you lure more players to buy the game!" or something.
The demo was very janky and underwhelming. It ran terribly, and they shouldn't have released it. But a lot of the problems have been fixed, and the worlds they didn't include in the demo are pretty fundamentally more interesting than the ones that were.
It's not a perfect game by any means, but it seems like a lot of people hate it for the wrong reasons or are missing the point of what the game is trying to be.
I'm actually pretty interested in Balan Wonderland since it heavily reminds me of that Saturn-era SEGA style and just looks like a fun game overall. Still, it is very curious that it's been reviewing so poorly. Is it pretty good?
Well, I'd be lying if I said that it was amazing or the greatest game ever. It has flaws, some things are annoying, and it's definitely overpriced. But YEESH, people are being way too unnecessarily hard on it. I've had a lot of fun with the game so far. The worlds it creates are extremely imaginative and nice to get immersed in. Definitely feels like a Saturn-era game.
H-Honestly I like some of the anthro creature designs. I'm not interested in it due to how gameplay looks. I don't hate the game but Mario 64 presents such simplistic gameplay that anyone can speedrun (without breaking the game) and also have fun. You only have 3 abilities and you only make so much use of them outside of your standard kit without them. Well...besides any Shells laying around. When I look at Balan Wonderworld I may be disappointed but...I can still see how it could've been better.
Problem is today, you shouldn't settle for mediocre because well...hate to say it but Pokemon Sword & Shield are a big piece of proof what happens when mediocre is in plain sight, with devs lying to people's faces, and various other problems that could've been simply done away with if more time and effort were put in. Rather than crunch the fuck out of it for a "yearly release" which is always going to be a giant bad idea. Which sounds like what happened with Balan Wonderworld to me. It got shafted on development time from what it feels like if it was given more time, it'd have been quite a game that'd be in a group with Mario Odyssey compared to what it is now, Demo or Final Release.
I want to note that I've not heard Balan Wonderworld devs lying, so I am not saying they are. Just saying their game could've been better than what it is now. I won't lie, much like Mario Odyssey, there are interesting concepts being explored, I just feel like they could always be explored better.I don't have much to say other than that b-but I feel like I've explained enough to say that I don't actually hate Balan Wonderworld but am disappointed because I know stuff could be done better. Its not bad but its not good, but being in a deadzone middle ground of mediocre is kinda...not good either.
