Post-Birthday Update

Figured I'd make a journal about this since it has been my second birthday during the global pandemic.
First off, THANK YOU to everyone who took the time to wish me a happy birthday. It meant a lot to me as I really could not do much of anything as our country, Trinidad & Tobago, has been placed under restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. More about that later.
So, how did this kitty celebrate his birthday? Well, nothing of significance. I didn't take the day off from work as I knew I'd be working remotely that day (as in working from home) so it was kind of relaxed, with the exception of a few work-related phone calls here and there, doing software updates, etc. I work in technical support, for those who don't know. Mom cooked me a nice birthday lunch (yes, I still live at home with my parents :P), which was delicious. It was not my usual birthday steak but I wasn't going to kick up a fuss. Like I mentioned earlier, because of COVID-19, couldn't do much but will get to that shortly. The highlight of my birthday I'd say was being able to go to the blood bank and voluntarily donate blood. It's about the only SAFE thing I could do as I know hospitals are sanitized and clean. Oh, I also forgot to mention that I had my birthday carrot cake brought to me, which I paid for, by the way. So yeah, it was a quiet day with just my parents.
So why so many COVID-19 restrictions? Well, simply put, our population got complacent during the Easter period, where school children were on leave/vacation and a lotta folks were congregating and not following health protocols. As a result, our Prime Minister, in consultation with the Ministry of Health, implemented measures for a three (3) week period, twenty-one (21) days, that was supposed to curb the spread of the virus:
1) No more in-house dining at restaurants, bars, casinos, cinemas, etc.
2) Public Gatherings were reduced from 10 persons to 5 persons
3) All beaches closed to the public.
This is in effect till May 23rd but over the last few days, there was a spike in COVID-19 cases, with yesterday (29-APR-2021) having the highest recorded number of cases ever - 328 positive cases.
Because of this, our Prime Minister implemented even more stricter measures. He announced the following services and establishments will be closed:
Restaurants
Bars
Places of Worship
Malls
Spas/Hair Salons/Barber Shops
Gyms/Fitness Centers
Casinos
Cinemas
He also announced the following:
1. The Public Service will operate on essential services only.
2. Flights to Tobago will be limited to 3 flights to a day
3. The ferry service to Tobago will operate at 25% capacity
Of course, he also said that persons are not to travel to Tobago unless it is essential or an emergency.
4. All Tour Services are to end.
So yeah, it's gonna be a LONG three weeks and I just hope the numbers decrease. :(
