Quick Rant About Hero Academia

--> My T.O.S. <--
I keep titling these journals quick rants xd But anyway, when something beloved to you turns garbage you kinda
wanna present your thoughts, so here I go. Spoilers ahead of course. This is mainly about EP6 I think.
We're currently in a kinda... boring random arc, school battle in a tournament-esque style, and I get the point is
to develop more of the Class A and B characters... but they don't actually do that and somehow... break the universe
a bit, correct me if I'm wrong. So here's what kinda ticks me off.
Komori shouldn't exist
Talking about the girl with the quirk to infinitely spawn mushrooms on and INSIDE everything. First of all, if you
have the power to just create freaking FOOD out of thin air, and we have seen the sheer masses in episode 6, you
would just instantly solve world hunger. In every superpower anime I kinda look for these powers that can break a...
fundamental struggle of a still somewhat realisticly built world, and creating food willy nilly always breaks the world
a bit for me and correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think we've seen a power like that in the show before.
Also that power is way too OP if it can just infiltrate a person's LUNGS and let them suffocate like she tried to do with
Tokoyami. Also can she make them DISAPPEAR as well? Because if not, best bird boi is just straight up dead in the next
episode. And the stupid teacher of Class B was just all proud at the end of the battle, I would have expected him to at least
tell Komori "Hey... Don't do that you freaking psycho!"
Yaoyorozu has evolved... just backwards
Wasn't she always one of the smartest in class? Why couldn't she, like, create items to help against the opponent's quirks
at the start of the battle when the teams were chosen? Instead of standing there like "even the unexpected lies within my
expectations" and just lose anyway. Like where is the character development in that? Why were we shown a weaker version
of herself in that battle and not someone who overcomes their weakness instead?
Big Meaty Fist Girl makes no sense
Unless I've misunderstood something... her quirk enlargens body parts, so far only the fists as we've seen. That doesn't make
any sense. The fists would be so heavy that she couldn't even lift her arms anymore, like it's not a... muscle/strength boosting
quirk like One For All, just look her tiny arms, those can't move fists like that. And even if they did, they could not deform a freaking
tungsten shield. Tungsten on Mohs Scale of Hardness is second only to DIAMOND. I don't think a human fist, even an inflated one,
should scratch that, like her bones would just break on impact.
I know it's just anime and all... but come on, make it a little bit believable at least.
The comic sounds guy is the dumbest thing I've ever seen
They're trying to pass that off as an actual character. A man with a pot of ink as a body and a manga page as his face. His quirk
makes... things appear based off onomatopeia... how does that manifest as a quirk in the first place? I can absolutely not wrap
my head around that. It's kind of similar to Levi's letter magic from Fairy Tail, but that one at least was kinda fun and more creative,
especially in terms of appearance, but this one's just... so stupid.
The Rest
-The twinkle guy is absolutely useless, and Tokoyami shouting his name actually had me burst into laughter.
"KANTU STOPU TWINKINGRUUUU!!!"
-I actually really like Tokoyami, he got some actual cool development throught the series, too bad he lost to a girl with an OP
quirk trying to kill him.
- I wanna see Eri and Mirio again :( big sad
And that's it.
Writing these is a lot of fun actually, hope noone got offended too hard xd

Woof out
Komori's ability is rather OP, and I had not thought about the food applications of it. Given that she can make them disappear, its possible that they would not offer energy if people ate them. Of course given the 'hero vs villain' focus of society in MHA, I imagine many quirks are overlooked if they can't be used in hero work. I was also mad about how she was able to make mushrooms inside people's lungs. seems like a totally crazy ability which could beat anyone. No one else even Deku could beat that. (I am also salty about this as Tokoyami is my favourite in the school)
I also agree that her teacher should of reprimanded her for doing that as it is too much of a dangerous ability. Momo could of won the game by making guns and grenades and shooting them but she doesn't because they are meant to be 'heros'. This aspect of class A vs B is annoying, it became something to see who is strongest not who is the best heros.
Some people's abilities do seem odd and don't make sense to how they work, but I feel the author just wanted to make soo many different unique designs of characters/abilities.
A comment below said that it was explained that the mushrooms do disappear after 2-3 hours, which is still more than enough time kill someone via suffocation, but as for food... I guess that should still be enough time to prepare, eat and use the actual nutrients.
That's also a really nice point, having your powers used in a way the benefits a "hero" versus just using your power to be as strong as possible no matter the circumstances, there's defnitely a bit of a disconnect going on there.
Also if she actually can't make them disappear at well, then Tokoyami is just dead xd
Like Komori herself should at least carry some fungicide spray with her at all times, just in case she makes mistakes with this quirk.
Also, you may think this part of the Class A vs Class B might be boring but as someone who knows what will happen, this is merely a set up for, what I assume is going to be the entirety of Season 6 while the second arc of this season will also be setting up for Season 6 too.
I can't say you wont be disappointed, I can't really tell how others will react but these first few battles are less entertaining due to them being the side characters, the ones that don't really matter compared to the main characters like Midoriya or Bakugou.
There's always gonna be really dumb quirk heroes, some of who I don't understand how they even passed the entrance exam but I gotta say, If I had to guess, Season 5 is nothing more than the set up for Season 6 but I have miss guessed Manga to Anime conversions before.
I also thought about Momo not knowing the other people's quirks, BUT they've also gone to the same school for quite some time now. Especially when she's supposed to be smart, I don't see why she couldn't have learned about at least some of the Class B quirks in all that time. I could even see her walking up to the other team and say "let's introduce ourselves first" and at least try to get information on their quirks before the fight started. Just something clever that would fit her character, I don't know xd
That's the way I see it, if I haven't seen their quick, Class A hasn't either.
Mushroom: According to the subtitles on the version I watched, they dissappear after an hour. So, yes, super op to spawn them in lungs, not so op for food.
Smart Girl: It might be something along the lines of "She might figure out how to counter it if I do it too early."
Fister: Can't say anything about her arms, but the quirk does mention that the size of her fist does increase her power output.
Comic guy: A one and done gag character, I read the manga as well, so I have some idea of what happens later, and he's only really relevant here.
Shiny and Raven: agreed on both ends.
As for the tournament arc thing, it is mainly story/character building, so it's normal for it to not be usual, or exciting. I personally quite enjoy it. Been a couple good scenes, and the reveal of Tokoyami's flight is pretty nice. Though his naming sense, as is expected for this show, unfortunately, is a little iffy.
Just wish some of it was a bit more coherent or fleshed out, would make it feel like actual good episodes instead of what almost feels like fillers x3
There is, as someone else pointed out, a big reveal coming up. And it's a doozy to think about the implications.
As for action? We'll have plenty of that soon enough if they follow the manga as close as they seem to be.
Finally, on topic of cohesion of story? It's all in the background, really, sprinkled in all over, but never explicitly stated. The goal will come. It just takes a little build up.
Even strictly biologically speaking, if I remember correct: Most mushrooms live in symbiotic relationships with their hosts, meaning they don't just leech off of organism and steal their nutrients, but taking some and giving some in return. So it's not even like they'd be sucking up their strength or anything x3
But I must say, reading your rant was definitely interesting, you've got some good points on many of the characters.
Sorry I don't have too much insight <.<
POTENTIAL SPOILER ALERT! I don't remember exactly when, but at some point Yaoyorozu does suffer from being very doubtful of her own abilities and intellect, making her doubt and double check every action she takes, slowing her down massively, and I wonder if this has any influence in the episode you describe. POTENTIAL SPOILER ALERT END!
Can't speak to tungsten being deformed by the punch, depends ENTIRELY if big fist is being augmented at all or not as that's... not explained.
Still don't wanna believe you can just punch through that stuff, big fist or not x3
To the point of Yaoyorozu not ACTUALLY planning ahead and just reacting, yeah, it seems like a mistake. But they did mention that the stronger the hand, the more power, so there is some level of muscle involved as well. But it's still pushing the bounds of polite suspension of disbelief. Luckily she's a Class B character and we basically don't need to think about her anymore after this.
Comic guy, I appreciated the fourth-wall note of "how will this translate over seas?" His ability is preeeetty weird, though, but not really more outlandish than....trying to think...um...gonna Google "weird My Hero Academia quirks" to make my point....that guy who turned people into freaky balls of flesh in the license exam. Sure, that'll do.
Because it felt sooooooo out of place, so non-organic even for this superpower ridden world, like that shouldn't really exist.
I mean, after all it was just a one-time appearance of some weirdo, but stuff like that takes me out of the world sometimes x3
really need to find the time again to watch it
At first I enjoyed the show, but very quickly it seemed to be losing its individuality. Just not for me!
