PSA Scammer hacking into Steam and Discord accounts
4 years ago
Okay, so last week, I got the message that specifically reads the following, "hey hey hey can we please talk for a minute?" and claims that my Steam account has been "accidentally reported due to illegal purchase". Unfortunately, I fell for it simply cause I was not aware of this scam tactic. The person told me to go friend this "BLUE#9007 and #7925, following their "steps" to get my steam account back, only to have my discord account taken by them as they've told me to screenshare those steps. I didn't gave them ANY money thank god. Unfortunately, they've botted my account and repeating the same process to others as well.
Please, DO NOT fall for their scam like I did. A lesson learned from this experience and never gonna fall for this again, after what happened.
On the other hand, I sent the request to Discord support and got a few replies about my situation, which the most recent, they've stated according to their "terms of service" that I am responsible for my giving my credentials to a third party. Not to mention that they cannot manually change my password and emails do to "strict privacy policies". Thankfully I got my Steam account back after filling out that my account has been stolen, and recovered with in 2 hours. The scammer changed both email and password on their, but I was able to get it back and change the latter. Discord on the other hand, not so much.... and I don't have 2FA cause I don't own a phone sadly.
After receiving that, I'm very upset that they didn't address this even if this is a serious situation such as this. This "giving your credentials willingly" is basically grounds for a lawsuit, as they're endorsing phishing through the policy. For the fact that I'm the OWNER of the FlakTaryd#9721 account. Shrugging off phishers for their heinous scams and saying that my account is "theirs" is not acceptable!

Please spread awareness about this, cause this is not fucking okay! Do not friend the BLUE scammer or give him your password and other valuable info.

Just discord not wanting to deal with it in any reasonable way.
But allow scammers to get away with impersonating someone else, potentially allowing more security breaches.
There should be a way to get 2FA on the desktop, else, a workaround is to install something like bluestacks, an emulator for android apps.
Just a shitty excuse on their end and Discord need to pull their head out of their asses. This is not acceptable!
And exactly, which indeed peeps are more prone to said security breaches.
I wish discord could be more forward like Valve with Steam.
Still sucks that they haven't been cooperative though
I do not like how the Discord staff cooperates with their userbase, and gives me the cold shoulder that I can't get my account back for "privacy reasons".
Thank you, Discord.
hopefully you can get your account back somehow! thanks for warning the rest of us
