Moving/Big Life Changes
So people over on my Twitter already know, but I need to let you guys here know too. Ray and I will be moving to New Jersey in the first week of July. Rent here has gone up $300+ dollars (an over 30% increase), and the rest of rent in the area is not any better, plus we have nothing really saved for security deposits because we used every bit of extra money last year to pay down debt. BECAUSE NO ONE EXPECTS RENT TO JUMP UP 300 DOLLARS IN A SHIT AREA. Anyway. The only other choice we'd have is to buy a house here, and we don't want to be stuck in Newnan. Even if nothing broke in the house and we sold it during a seller's market so we could move away, that's still a pretty final decision, and we don't want to stay here.
Our friend, Jamie, had offered for us to move in with her in New Jersey, and we took her up on it. So big life changes ahead. I'm going to try to keep up with my art this month and even in July while we are moving. If any of you have any questions or concerns, please do let me know. I appreciate all the support you guys give me.

Here in Salem (Oregon), rent control pushed all the big apartment complex companies to not only maximize allowable rent levels, but also force all prospective tenants to first prove they have a total household income in excess of two to four times the monthly rent, effectively disqualifying a large chunk of the population & condemning them to living on the streets in an area already heavily overburdened with a homeless problem.
The law of unintended consequences is an expert at cruel ironies. In this case, telling capitalists how much they can raise prices every year gave them explicit permission to do exactly that, and then filter their customers to exclude exactly the "risky" people meant to be helped by rent control.
Here in Georgia, if they wanted to raise rent to $10,000 a month for this two bedroom in this roach motel that was built in the 70s and has had VERY little updating done since then, they could. No lawyer could stop them. Sure, it'd be great if we could turn back every socioeconomic injustice and achieve some kind of equilibrium, but that's not the case.
So yeah, not to sound too damn jaded, but I'd take rent control over "I can charge any damn thing I'd like, how about you sacrifice your first born to me while you're at it".
Hello new neighbor o/
Moving house always sucks, but I hope at least it'll suck somewhere in the bearable range.
There has been a move to get more nazi influence here just like they are actively doing in Texass.
They are willing to overpay and as a result over inflate the situation
I understand the rent increases, mine got jacked $100 starting this month.
The rent where I am in Florida went up similarly last increase cycle (literally, by 30%+) and assuming they raise it at all again, we're going to have to move at the end of this year.
The downside, unfortunately, is that you may find that culture and such doesn't mesh well with you. But that's all a part of living, ain't it? Anyways, best of luck and wishes to you both!
