Dorrie’s 25th Birthday (SM64 Anniversary)
June 23rd is the 25th anniversary for Super Mario 64. That means Dorrie’s birthday is coming up. So I’m thinking of working on a bunch of Dorrie related art that I never got to finish and maybe even create a new Dorrie OC or more.
As one who favors Plessie more, I still got a soft spot for Dorrie who is still very underrated and gets less/poor treatment in games. When SM64’s anniversary comes, most will just talk about their enjoyment for the game in general. But I like to just focus on one character instead. I’m still gonna draw Plessie and work on request but I wanna try putting more time for Dorrie for the occasion.
Maybe this can also give you guys new ideas to celebrate the plesiosaur’s birthday.

Mario Party 2 (Cameo in Mystery Land)
Mario Party Advance
New Super Mario Bros DS (Small, medium are used. Large Dorrie unused)
SM64DS (DS is when Dorrie got a makeover)
Mario Odyssey (3 colors)
And I think Mario Party 3 / 4 and a cameo in Double Dash in Dino Dino Jungle.
Dorrie went through quite the change over time. Must admit, personally I always found Dorrie pretty much gave me a female vibe while Plessie always left me with a more male vibe (not really caring in regards what they officially stated in the encyclopedia book), mostly because of the voice and design. Dorrie had those eyes that you usually see most of in magical girl anime that have cute mascots added or feature a character that goes "That's kawaii!" ◕ ◡ ◕
The newer design with the diving goggles always reminded me of the Dolphins in "Super Mario World" first.
The encyclopedia is not a good source since other regions say other wise. Germany even says different genders in different sources for Plessie. I go with male because of Plessie's design and voice. Dorrie's redesign feels like gender neutral. Dorrie back then I agree looks kawaii so I thought Dorrie was a girl, but there's a sign in that area that uses male terms for Dorrie, but in Mario Party 3 or 4, Dorrie is a female. So it's best to see them as different Dorries. Nintendo can have Plessie like that too. But I do like to know how the main Plessie would be referred as.
They do, which reminds me I got art involving them too I like to work on.
Knowing Shiny who loves swimming and meeting friendly Dinos other Reptiles and Amphibians when splashing about, he'd likely be impressed by all the other waterloving folks in the Mario universe that might happen to cross his path somehow. Whether them being the actual ones or like pooltoy versions, all likely to make an adorable company. 💙
I’ll say real nothosaurs did evolve into plesiosaur, but that’s a completely different thing from what Plessie and Dorrie have. It could be possible to see Plessie in different natural sizes as well. But there’s so little we know about both characters/species.
I hope Nintendo makes plushies and pool toys. They be great for both Dorrie and Plessie!
Here's a cute drawn example for Plessie: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/13106987/ 💜
Thinking of it, Plessie and Dorrie would have also gone well as one of those pedal boats. I know the most common ones take a Swan appearance but a big Dinosaur one would fit even better in regards of the size ratio.
Plessie doesn’t have known beta art at the moment but it’s obvious it exist.
I love the art! Even if it’s old.
They can do that for Universal to have a Mario themed tunnel of love.
Happy you enjoy. Plessie is sure a character design that I enjoyed to combine with Shiny through some lucky occasions. In general I love the Mushroom Kingdom and neighbouring folks a bunch. A lot of colorful stories that have that jolly cartoony vibe that is just very playful.
Ah, I swear since back when I played "Super Mario Sunshine" for the first time and....
*browses name XD*
played the Pinna Park level, I was right away thinking that a Mario theme park would be so cool to imagine. The amazingly illuminated amusement park belonging to Bowser in "Super Mario 3D World" (only a shame the levels didn't have any rides at all though), for that also you can just applaud the people who came up with the cute designs. Have been following and fawning quite some over "Super Nintendo World" and all the adorable details at the various places and loving to imagine how they could expand beyond the existing rides. If I ever get to go on a vacation to Japan, a "Universal Studios" day is a must for sure.
A YouTuber called ChitChadPlays is building a Super Mario theme park in the PC game "Planet Coaster" and I recently suggested a Plessie Waterslide of sorts. While he can't expand his park pretty much further, he's going to likely try and make a Plessie statue for decoration somewhere yet.
But in the end, also thought a Yoshi-themed carousel would also have been pretty cute as you could actually feel like riding with a friendly Yoshi.
