Pretty and colorful...maybe something with flowers or crystals? That gives you an opportunity for a lot of great lighting and colors.
Or maybe something with stained glass, church-like, since those are usually really colorful as well.

Maybe a rich city in the desert ? This will allow you to work well with color and light, as well as work out a lot of characters (if the picture shows, for example, a retail space).

I'm a bitch for group pictures, but I know how much of a pain it can be to fill up every slot to get started. I get the feeling you'd have fun offering something with a more abstract theme, rather than a hardline "I'll put your character in this scene" type of deal.

Sure! In the same way that abstract art follows a much more loose and subjective style (as opposed to concrete drawings that are usually grounded in a certain amount of realism), the idea here is that you'd do a ych where you take someone's character and draw it with more simple shapes and colors (like this picture), or you'd take the colors and make something strange and wacky.
Essentially you'd be running a bit more fast and loose rather than just placing their character in a scene that you're presenting.
