Dream Narrative #9 (feels like it should say 'love potion' x3 )
It's been ages since I've done one of these. . . something like 10 months I believe actually. Sorry about that :P But I've been blessed with an interesting dream that I can remember decently well, so I will share it with whomever wishes to read:
In this dream I was a member of a fairly large group of outlaws in the wild west. Basically we'd travel from place to place and whenever we came upon a town we'd systematically wipe out everyone in it. I imagine afterward we would take their money or supplies and whatever we needed to move on, but that wasn't detailed in the dream.
So essentially the dream kind of started as we came upon one such little town in the middle of nowhere, a little bigger than we usually tackled but still enough that we felt we could go about our usual business of lead farming. Since this place was a little larger we split up into groups somewhat, tackling different areas of the town to cause confusion. Our leader stayed back a ways from the town on a rise where he could overlook things, along with a few others, to make sure everything went smoothly. I was in a group that basically was headed for the center of town, and I don't recall all that specifically but there were probably half a dozen to a dozen of us in the group, including my buddy or partner in crime you might say.
Apparently there was some communication mishap as we started shooting everyone in sight (I don't specifically recall killing anyone but I probably did) because the dream went back to the leader for a second. He kinda did a facepalm sort of thing and I guess our group was only supposed to pick off a few people and come back later in a guerrilla warfare kind of tactic. There were more people in the town than expected. The dream then went back to my perspective, and I looked back to see our leader and the remainder of our crew charging down the hill to our aid so that the operation wouldn't be completely botched and we wouldn't lose too many men. Our leader was in front, but apparently made the mistake of forgetting to load his six-shooter, which is what we were mostly using by the way. He just made himself look like a bit of an idiot and the others had to cover for him a moment. Anyway, the original group continued shooting the townspeople indiscriminately, moving on down the streets carefully as we went. I can remember seeing three fairly young boys sitting on the steps of a school house smoking something or other. My partner shouted, "Shoulda stayed in school, boys!" merrily and fired at them as they scrambled to try and reach the shelter of the building. They did get inside briefly, but it wasn't a safe haven for long and they were killed. It's interesting to note however that they were simply sitting outside there despite that we'd not exactly been very stealthy about shooting our way across town. It seems that some aspect of the dream just decrees that the townspeople are very oblivious to gunfire unless they're actually witnessing it.
In any case, sometime after this the shooting just sort of died down. There were still plenty of people alive on both sides, but they just seemed to be pretty much ignoring the fact that everyone had been shooting at each other not so long ago. Other things were going on though. There was a large fenced in enclosure, for horses it seemed, where much of the people had gathered. My partner and I moved up to a spot a long the fence to watch the spectacle within. Inside the enclosure, there was a large man, that is to say one with a lot of weight to him, from our group of killers as well as a similarly rotund woman from the town and a huge horse. The horse was large in stature rather than girth, it's shoulders as high as the tops of our heads I believe. The fence surely would not have contained it, seeing as we could rest our elbows on the top of it comfortably, but it stayed in there nonetheless. Generally what was going on here was that the woman was being pursued and abused by our man in various ways, which the crowd cheered on readily. I only remember flashes of things here and there, their clothing disappearing as it went on having been ripped off by the man, but there were definitely some parts where the woman had been forced to have sex with this enormous horse or the man chasing her. Also at times she was made to ride on the horse nude, sometimes joined by the male as well who was actually trying to pull her onto his lap and mate with her right on top of the horse as it cantered around the enclosure.
After watching this a bit, my buddy's thoughts went back to business and he made mention of how many people there were left to take care of in town, including the three people right next to me. These three consisted of a rancher, his wife, and his daughter. The patriarch was none too happy about what he'd just heard, pulling his revolver on me slowly. I made some reassuring remarks, telling him my weapon probably wasn't even loaded. Pulling it out I showed him that it indeed wasn't, and that it didn't even have any spent casings in it. In response my friend produced his weapon, noting that it was indeed loaded, but the rancher and I just laughed at him because he'd somehow managed to load some of the rounds in backwards.
Now another man appeared. I would think this was the rancher reasserting his annoyance with us except that this man was on the other side of the fence from us. He held up a pair of shotgun shells, asking me if I'd like a .30 or a .35, which don't really make sense as gauges as far as I know. I've never heard of them anyway. I mostly wrote him off and just started to walk away, almost across the street when he suddenly shot me in the back. It hurt a little, and was enough to knock me to the dirt, but I got right back up and was mostly fine. As I went down he had thrown the other, unused round at me along with a gold coin for some reason. I picked them both up, some of the ladies who were hanging out nearby taking sympathy with me. They seemed to be a group of whores, and they offered me a shotgun to use in revenge on my attacker, calling it "Old Bessie." It pretty much looked like a useless block of wood somewhat carved into the shape of a rifle, so I politely refused and continued down the street a ways.
The spectacle of the man, woman, and horse ended sometime around now I believe, because all of the people were suddenly free to do as they pleased, and for some reason decided it was a great idea to destroy the dam above town and hurried up towards it. At this point , inexplicably, the song Don't Stop Believin' by Journey became the background music of the dream and just kept playing throughout the rest, coming from nowhere and everywhere at once. Now this dam, which I hadn't seen previously, was an odd mixture of things that somewhat made sense for the period, and others that were entirely beyond it. It was essentially a large man-made pond of sorts a little above the town. I supported its destruction entirely, as I imagine the remaining members of my murderous group would, since it would mean washing away the majority of the town. People started to tear away at it, removing the dirt that was shoring up the sides, and pulling down the chain link fencing that made a ring around the top of the dam. As we removed the dirt, it revealed wooden sides to the dam beneath which didn't hold up long against the water pressure without the weight of the earth behind them. The water started to burst out of the dam forcefully, and I clung to some of the fencing above, completely unconcerned, even as it came unattached from the ground and I swung out backwards into the air on it. Basically the dream ended sometime during the dam's destruction. It is worth noting also that sometime between the start of that part of the dream and the end, one of the women from town (maybe one of the hookers who had sympathized with me) became smitten with me, and I with her. So I imagine we lived happily ever after.
THE END
I really don't have any good explanation for this dream, other than maybe the Journey, because I was playing Rockband the other day and had to sing that song. (100% :P ) All the shooting and stuff I could maybe attribute to the fact that I watched Constantine and Equilibrium last night, although the styles are extremely different and don't really have anything to do with the whole western theme. Tell me what YOU think :3
