I have a friend who did immigration investigation work, who was complaining just before the pandemic started that 'we have actual provable cases of human trafficking that we can't look into because the jackboots have taken all the budget'. A lot of those involved women being shipped to the U.S. to be 'brides' but where they wouldn't know any English or have anywhere else to go when things inevitably went bad.

Just like they drew all the funding out of attacking white collar crime to pump into the "War on Terror" that's now giving a bunch of tanks to police and tiny sheriffs of tiny towns that rip up their streets.

Or why the IRS doesn't have funding except to go after the poor only.
