New star dragon idea?
From my paws to your eyes.
A thought I had at work today, regarding Starlight's old suit and it's current state...
What if star dragons could change form to another species (like Starlight becoming a terrestrial star dragon) but, after changing, they also leave behind a form of empty vessel. This empty vessel has the same markings as their original form, and the same body type, but with a short bobbed tail and no back spikes.
When they leave behind this old soul, it has no special powers and is often eaten by the changed dragon, but when allowed to live they can make it a long time, living on whatever they can get into their mouths.
This vessel will be the same gender as the original form but is not fertile. They have no memories of their old self, and have a very basic intelligence that only goes as far as basic self preservation.
The dragon must binge on high calorie foods, not stones, earth, or gems, to get enough energy to make this split. They then pull into two forms, the new one emerging pale and weak, while the empty vessel will often linger nearby, not knowing to escape. As the new form gains strength and size, and develops its colors, it then either eats the empty vessel or leaves to find other food. Eventually the new form will leave the planet it landed on to make the change, while the vessel stays put.
This will probably get a comic or something.

What if the surviving empty vessels had a way to become whole again, maybe by refilling itself with another organism?
