No, you're right. A lot of people with otter sonas tend to wear glasses. One of the reasons is that "otter" is slang for a skinny, hairy gay man in the gay community. In relation, most queer men in STEM tend to fit that description since most jobs in the field don't require much intensive physical labor. Since they require a lot of mental labor, a lot of the folk tend to wear glasses, thus having their sonas wear glasses as well.

I think you might be on shaky ground inferring that smart equals glasses. I'm not that well acquainted with Gay culture, though. Do many "otters" in that community wear glasses? If so, I'd have to grant the point, especially if they are also largely techies.

Well, this 2Paw thinks it's because ottas like D'Otter-friend are Otta Sight-ed. <3 I hadn't heard prior to  Baron_Radish's mention of the descriptive term 'otter' in cultural gay slang; I had heard 'bear' before (a big huge, hairy and often bearded fellow) as I've been referred to as one before, or presumed to be one. Not being homosexual or bisexual myself (I'm painfully straight, within the breadth of my extremely limited IRL sexual interests) neither term would be something I'd come across other than as accidental or incidental conversation, but it is flattering, if unsettling, that other people find me appealing or interesting physically.

One lesson I've never been able to take to heart is that, no matter what you look like, you are attractive to someone. If you ever meet that person and if they are attractive to you is another matter. As you yourself say, however, that doesn't much concern you.

I started noticing it when I joined a couple of otter chats on Telegram. Not every otter in pictures wears glasses, but I swear it's close to half!

My boyfriend is an otter. He doesn't wear glasses IRL and he's yet to have an official fursona, although I think he'd be fond of a pair of cool sunglasses, if that counts

Well, as I said to Romanpower, glasses frames do seem to flatter an otter's face. I imagine sunglasses would do the job as well. The only way to be sure would be for him to decide on his fursonna image and get someone to draw him with and without.

Something else I noticed is that Furries with rat fursonnas tend to be nice people. (Present company included, of course.)
