I like the thumbs that have the very basic text rundown
"M/M, Vore"
"F/M Romance, Camping"
etc

I always get fooled by just image thumbnails and never look into the story because I'm too busy trying to figure out where I can see the image because that's what I clicked for lol

I prefer pdf myself.

Some of the writers I follow do two uploads, one with pdf and one with txt. I tend to read the txt unless the pdf has special formatting, is too long for FAs txt system or has art.

Mostly as it saves me leaving my phone browser.

And I definitely prefer descriptive thumbnails when I'm browsing or an writer does lots of different subjects or styles. With less prolific or more focused writers it matters less.

I vastly prefer PDF. I format my stories to have the margins/paper suze to be what you'd typically find in a print book, use paragraphs and indentation, spacing, and special text (particularly italics for thoughts and emphasized words in dialogue). .txt files preserve none of that and just look really, really sloppy.

txt is a bit easier for me, pdf is workable, and doc is a big nope.

pdf is not always accessible to people like me using screen readers so I much prefer txt. It's the difference between reading the story and not reading it at all. I never did care for picture thumbnails, they're too easy to confuse with an art upload.

When I upload a story, it's a toss-up. Shorter stories I'll format for Fur Affinity's text capabilities. Long-form stories go directly to PDF. I used to do both, simultaneously, but I had so few people reading my work anymore I gave it up.

I'm really surprised to see many folks saying PDFs are their preferred method for reading stories on FA. I've been doing .txt for over 10 years and always thought that was the vastly preferred option. As for a thumbnail, the benefit of text is that you can give folks a heads up to the main themes/content from the homepage, which might draw someone in even if the title itself doesn't hint at the story's content. <3 If you can, a consistent theme/background for your thumbnail can act as a form of branding, too. I've had many people go "Ohhh, I've seen your icon on FA's front page a bunch of times!" because I use the same base image for my thumbnails, and put the story's key themes as text over it. :3
