Furry fandom; we need to talk
Posted 7 years agoWeird of me to poke my head up so suddenly, I know. I've mostly been busy in the in-person scene at local meets and also focusing elsewhere in my life.
I've come back because I am seeing a trend that nobody here should be OK with.
My friend who is straight and monogamous was hit on continuously one night by a short, disgusting little man who didn't understand 'no' even though it was rephrased and reframed for him about a dozen times.
A friend had someone pull their dick out on them during a tickle fight.
I closely know a survivor of an abusive poly relationship that included verbally and physically violent coercion.
Lots of shocking stuff is happening. There was a double homicide by two members of the fandom here local to CA, more sexual assaults peppered here and there that I can count and, every time, I am mostly hearing "this is fine" in response.
This is not fucking fine.
I'm finally getting the gumption to write this because I've heard of yet another sexual assault. Like the others, it was followed by victim blaming and character assassination.
From what I've seen over my years in the fandom, this is the norm. The Califur staff has laughed at a rape victim, the tail staff has been tearing down this girl for going public that someone groped her when she was passed out in suit.
There are a few ways to handle an accusation with that. Distance is OK. Patience is OK, even respectful neutrality, but it is not OK to start giving people a platform to tear that person down so you can try to save the reputation of your event.
I know a lot of you reading this are not feeling great after hearing this stuff. A lot of you are, individually, good people. But if a fandom is going to survive, we need to ask where the culture is going and all try to act to make that culture safe for all of its members, not just some. Let's look at another 'fandom.'
PLUR
Ravers and candy kids have Peace, Love, Unity and Respect. That's a lot more than we have.
I've gone to all kinds of events in the last decade, lots of underground ones, even under bridges. People are doing crazy stuff but, somehow, everyone is safe. Not everybody keeps PLUR in their hearts there, but everyone abides by it and, if someone doesn't, they get removed.
I see Peace here. Every small out-culture tends to evolve into a safe harbor for peaceful, free expression and coexistence.
Love is big in the fandom. It's a bastion for free love in a lot of ways.
But I will say right now we are lacking unity and respect.
Unity means unifying. It means coming together to denounce someone who is hurting someone - even when they're doing so from inside the fandom.
That's part of Respect, which means that everyone has certain basic rights you can't violate.
Right now I am thinking of the right to life and the right to consent.
So if you're going to defend ANY of the shit I have talked bad on in this journal, do it here so I can see it, don't do it behind my back. I am ready to confront the problems in this fandom, are you?

Califur 2012
Posted 13 years agoLooks like I won't be able to make it this year cool cats :(
My folks are visiting for the week. For one; they've come over from Vermont and this is a pretty rare occasion. If I keep my job at Knotts long enough I may not see them until this coming christmas so I've gotta gert in my quality time while I can. I'm not sure I have it in me to skip out on them.
For another they still don't know I'm a furry. So that could lead to tons of awkward.
Sorry guys. Have fun on my behalf!

Load off my shoulders
Posted 13 years agoWhen you come to blows with people you respect and love, it can feel horrible.
For half a year I was convinced it was all my fault, that I was right in being shunned. It felt horrible.
Yesterday we both apologized to each other.

May PS Postmortem
Posted 13 years agoSo I dunno what that was.
1) I got grabbed and fireman carried around the backyard.
2) many conversations rife with mutual uninteligibility ensued for no clear reason.
3) Some guy was like "Hi!" and then picked me up for 30 seconds.
4) I was accidentally a dick to some girl who remembered me for my beard and laptop bag. Then she left before I could try and make amends. Way to be a dickweed, me.
I need a hug. Also cuddles would rule.
That said it was a laod of fun. Just sooooooo confusing. What is this I don't even
Addendum: Nigel's going to the store. Why, why, why did you tell me to watch this Bandit. Damn you, bandit.
lol

Capturing a Firefly, writing the transcendant
Posted 13 years agoIf writing about the human condition and the deepness of personal experience in a way readers can take into their own self image is hard. Then, it's even harder when writing work of a more adult nature. Worse yet if you're writing with any kind of kink in the story because of how subjective it becomes.
But it's always worth a try. Part of what separates pornography from erotica is a strong vision and a presence of that vision in the work. Ero has something beyond the usual exhibition of sexuality and delves into strong exploration not just of that same theme of sexuality, but also the characters involved. How have they found themselves here and how will their encounter change the way they view the world?
A real story is a discussion and deconstruction of ideas and the world they populate. I think we, as writers and readers of any fiction (and, if you're of the persuasion, adult fiction) should try to reach for that standard in the work we produce and consume.

Sexual Health and Legitimacy
Posted 13 years agoIt's hard to know when you have legitimate issues as a sexual being or are simply being baseless and uncalled for.
I've been feeling that way a lot. Moreso now that Ir eally don't have anyone to confide in. I usually kepe my sexual tastes from being too 'HERE THEY ARE DO YOU LIKE THEM?!?!?!?!?' because, I mean I hate that when people into stuff I hate do that.
I figure it's just courtesy, I don't expect the entire public sphere to share my peculiarities. Really, I just want to be able to discuss that sort of thing with someone and not just stew in my own weirdness.
BEAR IN MIND WHAT FOLLOWS OMITS MY RELATIONAL ATTITUDES THEY ARE IMPORTANT TO ME BUT NOT LISTED HERE. I have blue balls, Don't judge me :P
So I guess I'll put up a blurb on who I am sexually. Feel free to spready around the questions,it would be funny if this became a meme.
Guys or girls:
Girls. I'm not very guarded when it comes to gay guys but I'm just not into them. At furthest I may end up being pansexual someday if I really fail at finding a decent person of the fairer sex but don't wait up for me.
What are you into?
Breasts are a big turn on for me, big or small. I just love em.
Naughty tentacles. Yeah, I know I'm a horrible person.
Exotic beings/xenos in general. I have my limit but unorthodox character outlooks and unorthodox encoutners get me.
Monsters/Aliens. It works out well for me, though. I know a few of my old partners really liked my RPs because of this :3
Mutualism/bonding/symbiosis. I'm an intimacy nut so no duh I fantasize about this.
What are you neutral about:
Dom/Sub in general. When played weakly as an innate property of a relationship it can be intriguing, but once the leather and latex comes out my eyes glaze over.
Asses. They're great but I usually like being face-to-face in a sexual encounter.
What do you hate:
Futanari are just weird to me, don't ask me to appreciate it.
Inflationism beyond a slight amount of expansion is kind of grotesque.
Fat furs in their standard form, which is cranked up to 9,000.
Erotic cub art. THe ethical implications are just plain bad.
Any bodily waste products. Grossest thing I know of.
Rape. The idea of hurting someone mentally and physically as a fetish is just too dark for me.

Grey Goo Scenario is out now, it is weird.
Posted 14 years agoSo Renard Queenston just released Grey Goo Scenario, it is like a crazy breakdancing posthuman explosion of sound.
There's only 5 songs on the album, all of which can be found on Renard's offical channel http://www.youtube.com/user/lapfoxofficial . They jump a lot of genres and some , like The Machines (and Us) are basically a multimorphing whatchamajig or Bad Man and Or Rude Boy which is absolutely crazy; blending latin-style beats with modern synths and a hamaican guy speaking patois dub gibberish shifted down a couple or so octaves.
Since you can get it for as little as $3 I'd say it's worth it for anyone who likes muscal curios. Even if you don't all of the music is super catchy and its wierdness will probably make it stick in your head like a virulent nanobot swarm.
Get it at www.lapfoxtrax.com
TL:DR: if you like weird catchy electronica, go get this. If you don't know yet, check out Renard's youtube channel.

Posted 14 years agoThis might be a bit to ask anyone visiting this page, but I really need help with his comic. Just not in the obvious or labor intensive fashion.
I need and humbly request feedback.
I want critique as hard as anyone dares to hurl it at me. This has been a very ungrounding, personally minded project for me and I need some people to pull me back to reality. Chances are this journal's not going to get much exposure, but I started this comic in the spirit of experimentation, so what's one more shot in the dark?
If anyone answers these questions about a page of my comic I'll take half an hour to pick apart a work of their own that they feel needs some critique with no punches pulled.
> If you lost the plot, where did the comic stop making sense?
> What did you like about the comic?
> What do you hate about the comic?
Reply to this journal or note your answers to me. Also include a link to a piece you want me to look over in kind.
