in other news, art fight is less than 20 hours away from ending and it's looking like i will meet all my goals for it, despite the odds(taking an entire week off to entertain a guest, getting more first attacks than ever before, etc)!

i'm struggling a lot to finish all my revenges for artfight, so i am burning out pretty hard and will likely have to postpone re-opening commissions to take a lengthly break from art in general. i apologize but i am doing my best and am simply overwhelmed.

for those unfamiliar, artfight is an annual, month-long art-trading event which takes place on artfight.net every july. the gist is that you make an account, upload your original characters, and then 'attack' other people on the site by making art of their own ocs for them. there are two teams, and you get points for yours based on how many attacks you throw at the other team (and how finished/good those attacks are- a sketch headshot does not earn nearly as much as a fully rendered fullbody).

unlike traditional art trades, there is no need to discuss what you are making for someone before hitting them, and no real penalty for not drawing back. the whole thing is as intense or laid-back as you make it! theoretically you could join, post your characters, and never draw, and you might still get art just from people who liked your characters. i strongly encourage revenging tho- even if you don't think you're good at art, it's polite to try. on the flip side, please NEVER attack someone if not getting something back from them will upset you. we all have different comfort zones, schedules, and drawing speeds, so don't be a jerk!

that said, many people, including myself, do hold ourselves to a promise of revenging every attack we receive! (usually limited to one per person but not always- more than one trade between two artfighters is called a revenge chain) you can check people's profiles to see if they are playing that way, and also check their battle ratios to see if they are likely to uphold it. battle ratio is a comparison of the number of attacks received (called defenses), and attacks given. battle ratios over 50% mean the person has given more art than they've gotten, which means they are highly likely to return fire!

artfight is a wonderful way to;
- get art of your characters without spending money
- make friends
- get more comfortable creating for other people (artfighters aren't allowed to be mean about art they receive, since it's all free)
- practice your craft, including experimenting with new styles
- find inspiration by browsing tons of cool characters and art styles
- distract yourself from the state of the country/world

all kinds of visual art are accepted- traditional, digital, drawings, sculptures! AND, there is no skill requirement. i suggest focusing your attacks on people of a similar skill level to be fair, but artfight is very beginner-friendly, despite being popular even among professional artists.

This is a reminder to include a LEGIBLE SIGNATURE on ALL artwork you share online. not just a watermark image or initials- a signature that can be read and then typed into various websites to find your account.

i was looking for targets on artfight and found art that did not match the user's style at all but was marked as made by them, and thanks to the signature on it, i then discovered it was not only uncredited, but was originally an attack on a completely different character owned by a different user. not only the art, but the character's design had been stolen. the same user had another character/image i highly suspect to be stolen, but because there is no signature on it and it didn't come up in any reverse image searches, i can't do anything about it.

so the last couple of days i’ve had weird bouts of persistent dizziness/lightheadedness. usually if i experience something like that, a little 30 minute nap or hydration/food fixes it immediately, but this time it hasn’t. in fact, i think the dizziness gets *worse* after eating. i also get plenty of sleep and normally that means i am UNABLE to fall asleep during my normal ‘waking’ hours, but due to the dizziness, i’ve been able to sleep for up to five hours in the middle of the day, also going to sleep early after that. i haven’t spent much time awake the past few days, basically.

pretty sure my hilariously awful diet has finally caught up to me and i gave myself diabetes, but i’ve never actually known anyone in-person who had it so i’m not sure. obviously gonna go to the doctor to find out but i have a very bad history with them not listening to a word i say and also trying to pressure me into various procedures i’m not having... so... we’ll see.

a scammer i made a journal about months ago made a THIRD alternate account to evade suspension, doing the same 'offer high-priced commissions, take your commission request to a cheaper artist, use your money to buy it, give it to you claiming they made it, and pocket the massive price difference' scam again.

fa doesn't seem to care and refuses to just ip ban the fucker apparently (or maybe they're using different ips somehow, but considering the accounts are all just suspended rather than banned... i'm not happy with how fa is handling this)

so! as a reminder;

- do not buy from spamming solicitors. (if all the shouts on their page are people thanking them for saying 'nice gallery', they clearly don't actually mean it and are just trying to get their foot in the door with as many people as possible to pressure someone into buying from them)

- do not buy from artists who do not have a consistent watermark/signature that is on all their work. (either the art isn't theirs or they're woefully inexperienced)

- do not buy from new accounts (less than a year old) unless they are really cheap and/or someone you actually know and trust vouches for them. (so if you never get the art it won't be a huge deal and/or there's no room for a price difference for them to be profiting off of)

- do not buy from artists who do not have a public price sheet. (some more professional artists don't have one because working for big companies is a bit different than personal use stuff, but usually it's pretty obvious when that's the case)

- and lastly, never let an artist pressure you into buying ANYTHING from them. you don't even have to give them an excuse; if they make you uncomfortable or ask for something you don't want to give, just don't respond, and if they keep pestering you, block them. there's plenty of artists on here who WON'T do that for you to choose from. cut your losses. take care of yourself.



and to people who scam like this; you should be ashamed. instead of lying and stealing and scalping, you could be an actual member of the community, making art yourself or helping artists from other sites reach a wider audience. but no. you choose to be literal trash by shitting all over the hard work and years of practice and study those artists are doing. you're choosing to throw their and your customers' kindness and trust back in their faces by lying to them and stealing the money they'd be happy to give you if you chose to work honestly like the rest of society.
