usually about 95% on commissions(yes i sell art so i can buy art), and the remaining 5% on videogames to play with my husband on the rare day he has off.

that might be changing soon tho! as i gain experience, i become more satisfied with my own style, thus not being as interested in commissions from others. i also make more sales, which opens up more possibilities for what i can do with my earnings.

i'm looking at moving to 50% for home improvements (currently we are figuring out a fruit garden!) 20% for commissions and still just 5% for videogames.

i set out to not draw at all this last week of august, to regain my energy for snektember, and it's been interesting. i think i've been drawing fairly regularly since june(and if you've watched me at all closely you might know that's unusual for me), so any time i STOP drawing for a bit, i feel like i'm doing something wrong and i NEED to draw. now after almost a week tho i've settled down and now i'm like 'man, not feeling the need to draw is so nice and relaxing'. now snektember is coming up tho and it's gonna be CRAZY. the vast majority of people who would enter my raffles or ask for requests have ZERO respect for artists in general and are just lazy jerks looking to cheat artists out of hundreds of dollars worth of work. and yes, at this point my skill is finally high enough that giving my work away for free costs me a significant amount of money, which in turn also hurts other artists who are trying to make a living. why buy from them if i give the same quality away for free?

seriously, so many can't be bothered to even read the rules of entry on my raffles, and yet expect me to spend hours drawing for them? and i go to check their pages out when i confirm their entry, and surprise surprise, their favorites are NOTHING but free art raffles. just randoms browsing the tags, probably didn't even LOOK at my gallery before tossing their reference sheet in my face without so much as a 'thanks for the chance'.

*sigh* i'm technically offering free art right now, on artfight, but since it takes more effort than just clicking a single button and copy pasting a reference sheet, nobody cares. it's pretty fucking sad, honestly. you could get something worth anywhere from 10-200$ from me if you just put in the same amount of time i do, regardless of the difference in skill level.

i would LOVE to do free raffles for folks who buy commissions from me, on the other hand. folks who i know actually DO appreciate my work and recognize that it has monetary value. but i'm pretty sure 'pay to enter' raffles are against the rules here, and patreon really doesn't work for me since i'm not consistent enough to offer rewards EVERY month.

(why this rant out of nowhere? had someone fave an old raffle of mine... that has been closed for months and says so in the title... and leave a comment on it that was nothing but their ref sheet. also had some pretty lazy attacks on artfight- not just amateur quality, those are fine, i mean extremely low effort. yes, i can tell the difference.)

i put hours if not days into every piece i do, and that's not even counting all the time i've spent LEARNING to draw in the first place, getting better over the years through study and experimentation. it makes me so happy when people like my work, but come on, artists deserve more respect than to be treated like disposable art machines >:/

i'm having a bit of a health scare, and it's really hard to get a proper diagnosis or treatment since it's not something super obvious from the outside, and actively life threatening, like my arm being cut off. REALLY HARD. i've done my research and have a pretty good idea of what it is... but that doesn't really help since doctors try so hard to get me out of their offices as fast as possible and won't listen to me when i describe symptoms. ('well it can't be THAT because you aren't whining like a little bitch!' i have a high pain tolerance so i don't tend to cry even when i break bones, which apparently means that nobody believes me when i tell them i am in agony and something is wrong)

it's pretty scary, especially since it seems to occur when i'm most deeply asleep, which also happens to currently be when i am home alone, and there isn't a hospital near enough that my anxiety-ridden-self can drive to on my own. basically it's either heart attacks (two so far) which, i do have a bit of a history with that (kroger brand icecream cookie sandwiches apparently trigger heart palpitations for me), or, if i'm lucky, just acid reflux, which i've had before and feels nothing like this.

i went to urgent care and they couldn't find anything, but their machines are kind of basic and like i mentioned, they were trying to rush me out asap and thus did not do an adequate job of telling me what they were doing or figuring out what was going on from me. i have an appointment with primary care for tuesday, but i'm not hopeful considering how i was treated there last time i was having heart trouble, and how inconsiderate about my pain and pushy about me undergoing a specific, completely unrelated physical test that i CANNOT have due to trauma they were.

so yeah. just venting a little and putting the situation out there in case i disappear. good thing i finished all those artfight revenges, at least! folks on my commission list should be able to get refunds through my husband if necessary.

seen someone selling them so i wanted to say; don't buy them. at least, not for more than 70 cents. the way toyhouse works, you can pay 5 dollars to get a premium account for a month, and during that month you'll get 8 invite codes (2 per week) so the people selling codes for like 5 bucks are turning a profit in a way the site makers probably wouldn't approve of.

got my second moderna shot on wednesday. had a low fever yesterday and one of those weird headaches where it only really hurts if you move up/down or tilt your head. got zero sleep last night cuz of it. but! coulda been way worse and i'm mostly better now. not quiiite better enough to like, go for a jog in the park, but at least my head's clear enough for videogames.

so most of you know by now that i have absolutely no schedule when it comes to uploads, and i often go into periods of absolutely no art, then come back later posting at least once a week for a bit, and then back to nothing.

for some reason i felt like warning about the nothing this time XD i been doin' commissions and stuff (mostly on my nsfw account) lately so i'm somewhat burnt out right now. also, the month after next is artfight, and as is customary i intend to dedicate myself to that fully. as such, i need to take june off so i can fully recover and be ready to art non-stop. june's also my birth month and my wedding anniversary month, so more reasons to just chillax. going at it so hard in july will probably burn me out super hard, so august will be another dead month as i recover.

so next time i'm more active and publicly advertising commissions will probably be snektember. (i still check my notes regularly but i likely won't be able to take any complex commissions until then, if any commissions at all)

FA doesn't allow call-out posts so tho i have substantial evidence on one particular user here, i cannot mention them by name. however, that doesn't mean i can't make a post about the scam they are pulling, that many others are likely also using or will be using, so you can look out for it.

first, a little background. there is a massive difference in the value of american currency, the dollar, and russian currency, the rubel. this means that many russian artists will charge what to us americans, is a super cheap price, for art that is worth far more to us. that's not the scam, that's just how things go with an insane exchange rate. (1 USD is roughly 74 RUB- i've also learned that it's pretty high for AUD as well, 1 AUD to about 57 RUB, so watch out for that)

the scam is that there are people here, posing as artists and offering commissions, who charge you the american price (say, 100$ for a nice full-rendered fullbody), then throw your order description into google translate, and commission a russian artist off-site for your picture but at the much cheaper russian price (say, 20$), and then give you the other artist's work, claiming they made it, while pocketing the 80$ difference.

it is very important to note that at no point does this person tell you they are doing this. It is theft and scalping, not brokering. the scammer will avidly claim to have drawn the work themself, and will cut contact if you show them evidence to the contrary. the artists they are commissioning on your behalf are NOT giving permission for their work to be re-sold like this, and in fact have no idea that the scammer is profiting from it at all, or that the characters they are drawing belong to someone else.

what to look out for;

-leaves generic 'i love your gallery' shouts on your and many many others' pages (often has an INSANE ratio of comments, like 10x as many given as received, in their stats. the one example i know of, when discussing the commission over discord and asked what they liked about the target's gallery, requested a link to it, since they didn't actually care enough to keep track of which person they were talking to and had to find something relevant to comment on)

-comes to you offering to sell, rather than posting a public price sheet/examples of their work (not publicly posting means they can charge different people different prices for the same amount of work, AND means they can commission any artist for your order without worrying that it won't match "their" style)

-either has no public gallery at all or has a very young one (all artists have to start sometime, but you should always be cautious of new accounts, ESPECIALLY if they come to YOU with an offer)

-has nothing they will not draw, and has no preference on content (since they are not the one drawing and can easily find AN artist who's willing to do what you ask for)

-doesn't link their various accounts to eachother (no way to find them on other sites than the one they contact you from) or has zero consistency in their usernames (to evade bans)

-has very inconsistent art style (art in their gallery may even still have obvious watermarks/signatures that do not match) if you suspect someone of stealing other's art, try putting multiple pieces of "theirs" into a reverse-image search site, and contacting the artists of the oldest posts.

-gets extremely defensive/rude if you question their process, style, or watermark/signature (or just suddenly drops the whole thing, or claims to be busy, after pestering you with almost no breaks)

-is pushy and impatient (since they don't want to give you time to reconsider, and have to get back to the real artist with what you say)

-insists on talking outside of furaffinity, such as discord, instead of through notes (this is not just for faster interaction, putting you under pressure so you are less likely to properly analyze the situation, but also so that the conversation cannot be used against them ON furaffinity)

-speaks really bad english(tho there are plenty of trustworthy russian artists on here and the scam could be operated by someone fluent in english, so don't rely on this trait alone. it is merely more efficient for a native russian speaker to scam other russians)

-has inconsistent pricing or tries to raise the price after you agree to one (they will be open to haggling, since even if it's a lower price they still make a considerable profit for no effort on their part)

-does not use invoices, and/or tries to convince you to pay them 'as a friend' to avoid paypal's protection fees. (when in reality it is so you cannot get a refund) DO NOT USE BOOSTY UNLESS YOU KNOW AND TRUST THE ARTIST. it is just like 'pay as friend' with paypal, in that you CANNOT dispute a transaction/ask for a refund.

not only is this horrible for the customers getting scammed out of big bucks, but for the artists who are being abused and not receiving their due payment and exposure/credit.

and artists; PLEASE WRITE YOUR FULL USERNAME ON ALL OF YOUR WORK.

if you just use a cute symbol or initials, nobody can find you to contact/credit you if your work is stolen! also do not put it on an outer edge, as it can easily be cropped out. see this piece of mine for multiple examples of how to place your signature in a way that is both legible and hard to crop out, without being obtrusive.

send me a photo of your pet, pay the 20$ invoice i send you, and get a cute (or otherwise themed) stylized pic of your pet!

some weirdo left the message "I’ll use what I want you fucking ass selfish bitch" in BOTH my inboxes, as well as some comments/shouts that got deleted due to them "deactivating their account" (see; getting banned). i only saw this stuff after they vanished, so i don't know what the comments said or where they were, if they were on a specific submission at all, which i'm dissapointed about because i'm very curious what on EARTH this person was talking about. my best guess is they were an art thief getting mad at every artist ever for wanting their hours of time and years of training to be respected.

been doing some thinking (and comparing my prices to other artists of similar quality) and i've decided to raise my prices. moderate effort (my usual style) will go from 20$ per fullbody to 35$, and my maximum efforts will go from 40$ to 60$. ychs will not change however, as it is far easier to modify a pre-existing image than to make a fully custom pic. (minimum efforts will stay the same price, but will get a bit looser/messier)

(ps; this is not an april fool's joke, and the increase will take place no sooner than a week from now)

according to twitter, today is atheist day? that's pretty cool. there's a lotta religious bs mucking up a lotta governments, and intolerant, hypocritical religious people who use their beliefs as justification for ruining others' lives.

now i aint' sayin' all religious people (or religions) are "bad", but the vast majority ain't been kind to me so i ain't fond of them. maybe one day we'll have a world where people can let eachother live how they want to live, instead of this nonsense where everyone tries to force the entire world to become their clones.
