Shitty day, stolen bike
Posted a year agoWell, someone stole my bike from the fifth floor of the apartment complex where I rent an apartment. It sucks. The bike was my buddy, it even had a name :C It was a bike I always wanted for many years, so I finally bought it 4 years ago.
I think this is the first time someone has stolen something from me, and it's also the first time I've dealt with the police. They were very nice and took it seriously, even though they said it was not very likely that I will see my bike again... The bike was not SUPER expensive, $520 USD, but it is still good money for me in Czechia and I don't think I could replace it soon. And they cost more now.
It's also a shame that I don't feel super safe here right now. Although the bike was outside my apartment, it was behind 2 shared locked doors. Damn them thieves.

So I'm kind of a perfectionist when it comes to my drawings, I can redraw the same line over and over until it's perfect in my mind and then I'm still stressed out whether the client likes the result or not. So I want to do this fun thing to relax and here are the rules:
I am open to easy sketch commissions. I don't know exactly how it will turn out, in what style it will be. It can be a portrait, it can be full-body, with or without a background, I will decide myself. The theme of the picture too. I want something light, easy and fun. The trick is that you will pay only after I finish the drawing and as much as you want. If you don't like the picture, you don't have to pay, so no stress. ;) Payments over PayPal. When the picture is finished and uploaded here, I will send you the high-res and my PayPal email.
To sum it up:

Posted 3 years agoThe last few months I haven't been very active here, in general this year has been chaotic... But I hope it changes for the better.
But, another big part of my life is over, I am finally done with the studies and I got a PhD degree! I am A Doctor! (of philosophy, not actual medicine :) It was very stressful to get all the paperwork done (in Czech, which is not my first language) and to present my research to the committee... They were not the nicest people, but it's finally over and I can breath out a little bit.
I studied programming and creative coding - the way to use code to create some kind of art - images, animations, visualizations, etc. I will still work in this direction, I hope to get into a three-year project to develop it further.
For the last two years I have been working as a teacher at another University, which I could not have imagined before... But it turns out that this is not so bad. Especially since I work 2 days a week. :) And that new title is important for my job as well. I don't think I will be doing that all my life, but we'll see what happens next.
In the meantime, I'll rest and draw.

The war
Posted 3 years agoLike any civilized person, I am shocked and outraged by the Russian attack on Ukraine. People die every day, beautiful cities turn to ashes. It's getting worse and worse... A day ago I got news that a Ukrainian pilot whom I knew and admired from numerous air shows, Oleksandr Oksanchenko, was shot down in his plane by a Russian missile. He was 54, retired colonel, who came back to service to defend his country.
I am originally from Belarus. Almost 8 years ago, I moved to the Czech Republic precisely because I do not agree with the policy of our country, I hate our president, who buries our culture, economy, freedom of speech and will. Back then it seemed to me that everything was bad, but now it’s scary. I don't know what's next. I'm scared for my friends in Ukraine, I'm scared for my mother, grandparents in Belarus. The Belarusian army and police are under the complete control of our president-dictator, who will do whatever Putin tells him to do. Our territory is already used to launch missiles and send tanks to Ukraine. Everyday we receive news that the Belarusian army can be sent to this war to support Russian. I'm afraid it might happen soon...
Nobody wants this war except lunatic Putin and his gang. It was the Russian government, not the Russian people, who started it. Protests are taking place in Russia and Belarus, hundreds of people are being beaten and taken to prison just for carrying a “No war” banner or a Ukranina flag.
In Europe, I have the luxury of expressing my opinion without fear for my life. In Prague, we had a huge protest against the war, in which more than 80,000 people took part and there was not a single conflict, everyone united to support the victims of the war. Such protests are impossible in Russia and Belarus, but people still try. Many Russians, Belarusians have relatives in Ukraine, my grandfather is from there. We don't want this. I think it's important not to be silent and try to do everything possible to make a difference, to help someone.
I hope you all and your families are safe. Things are dark, but there is always hope.

A friend of mine is living outside the city on the south of Czechia, he has a house by the forest. A few days ago some birds moved under his roof (literally). He can't see them, but he definitely hears them and their long high-pitched squeaking noises. They do it all through the night and my friend can't sleep (he's an elderly man), it's driving him crazy.
He recorded the sound the birds make. Here's a link to the recording: https://drive.google.com/drive/fold.....Wr?usp=sharing
So, maybe anyone knows what kind of birds they are based on their voices? (location is south Czechia)
And, do you guys have any ideas of how to get rid of the birds (scare them away?)?

Posted 4 years agoI need your ideas, it's for the article I'm helping with. So I am looking for exotic animals mentioned in the literature, maybe poetry (I don't mean encyclopedias and zoology books tho)... Sloth, hyena, platypus, kiwi, anteater, tapir, hippopotamus... you get the idea!
I love Watership Down, The Plague Dogs, Guardians of Ga'Hoole, Warrior cats, and such but now I'm looking for something more exotic. Maybe you've read something like that? I'll be really grateful for any pieces of advice :)

It's been a strange year, a lot of things happened, mostly good for me. I'm not having any big celebration today. Usually, I try to go on a little trip somewhere away, but due to the world events that will have to wait. So it's just me, a big cake and movies, why not. :3

After a set of pretty stressful exams/interviews/paperwork, I became a Ph.D. student. I just had to do something with my life, I was not ready to move away from the city I live in and I need some time to figure out what I want to do next, so continuing studies seemed like a good idea.
My dissertation sounds like "Creative coding and generative algorithms as a tool of interactive visual art creation." Basically, it's about using programming, math and physics to create some art.
It's been just a month but I already feel like packing my backpack and running away somewhere to the mountains where no one can find me. Me being an asocial idiot doesn't help with all the new responsibilities with the students. I have to organize them, give some tasks, even teach. I hope I'll get better at this, but right now I feel just like the Radiohead's Creep. Wish me luck! :C

I studied digital design here, in the Czech Republic. I have to say, it was pretty tough. All the projects, installations, presentations, exams and oh man all that paperwork! It was also hard coz I was had to do everything in Czech, which is not my mother tongue, though it's on a pretty decent level now, I think. And now it's finally over and I'm free! Yay!
Thank you all for the patience! Now I'm back to drawing for good.

I'm getting my Master's degree at our University, so I have to finish my thesis, and it's such a pain in the ass... But everything is almost done, so I'll be back to normal life in a few days. 2. There will be one winner per every 50 participants! So the more the better. :) It'll help a lot if you share this journal, I'll be very grateful!
3. I don't know what kind of picture you'll receive yet, it might be a full pic, half-body, portrait or anything, I have many ideas I'd wanna try ;)
