Looking for realistic bird suit builder
Posted 12 years agoA non-fur friend of mine is looking at commissioning a realistic raven costume. The builder I thought of recommending is not open for commissions.
So...Suggestions on a reputable maker who does real-looking birds?

Wedding idea - you can help!
Posted 12 years agoWant to help me with my wedding?
I have an idea, but need your help.
If you call me friend, would you do me that favor of sending me a simple paper-craft fox?
I'd need the foxes by May 1st, please.

Wedding pre-party potential venue
Posted 12 years agoHey -
Denver-area furs - Where do you think would be better for the wedding pre-party in mid-May?
- a hotel meeting space
- Exdo Annex event center (where the Colofur Howl-o-ween party is held)
- a clubhouse of an apartment complex
Note, if we do a hotel or event center, we may have to ask for a cover charge, to cover rental fees.

Furry pre-wedding party
Posted 12 years agoHey there -
As some of you know, I am getting married to Locke in May. We will have a semi - traditional wedding for the family.
However, we would also like to party with our furry friends. We would like to have a furry bachelor / bachelorette party. We would done fursuits, ears and tails or simply furry names, play some Rock Band and generally have a good time with good friends.
We simply need to find a place to hold the event. We need a place that is fursuit friendly and okay with some noise!
EDIT: We would prefer to skip a bar or club.
Would anyone here have some suggestions on places near Denver, CO, to hold just such an party?

Rice Buddies need to go! - FurIdaho related
Posted 12 years agoHey there!
If you visited the artist alley, you had a chance to see my friend Cosplay Momma's table with the rice buddies, including the scented and blood splatter ones.
After the con, she had a bunch of rice buddies left, and would love sell the rest off. If you wanted one but didn't get a chance to snag one, drop me a line. She and I can see about getting rice buddies to you!

Post-FurIdaho 2013
Posted 12 years agoWhew. FurIdaho is over and done. For Locke and I, this year went better than last. It was fun to share the time with several friends, including Samantha, who was attending her first fur con.
My panel was well attended and ran (mostly) smoothly. Having done this "first run", I can see ways to improve it and share it at other cons. I'd love to share the panel again at another event.
After the con wrapped by, my friend Samantha and I checked out Animatics evening of anime improv. While I'm rusty on my anime knowledge, we both took to the stage and made proper fools of ourselves, along with most of the other attendees. Great event.
Overall, a wonderful weekend of escaping reality. It was just the fix I needed. Now for two more weeks of bounding the books till Spring Break!

Do Not Touch
Posted 13 years agoAt a con over the weekend, a friend of mine was unwilling "glomped" (i.e. tackled) from behind. She was injured, complete with a trip to the ER today.
Seriously, do NOT glomp / hug / touch someone without their consent.
This kind of behavior makes me sad.

To tail or not to tail
Posted 13 years agoI MAY be working on my Halloween costume. ;)
It MAY be a flying fox / fruit bat. ;)
It MAY be a simple hoodie, as opposed to a full body costume. :)
However, I do have a ponderance....should I add a tail?
The photos I see online make it difficult to tell if they have a significant tail or not.
Should I skip one altogether? Should I make a tiny, stubby one?

Thoughts on Aurora
Posted 13 years agoThis was written by a friend of a friend. However, I fully share the sentiment:
It has been a little disturbing to read so many who are jumping on "band wagons" in response to this horrible tragedy in Aurora. This is not about more or less gun control. This is not about being harder or softer on crime. This is not about the state of the mental health community. This is not about movie content. It is not about everyone needing to have someone else's vision of or connection to God. These may all be viable topics, but this is a tragedy.
When our personal agendas have become so all-encompassing within our own mind, that even this type of horror immediately becomes fodder for our favorite hot-topic, we need to widen our vision.
Let the tragedy be a tragedy. For now, this is not about our own agendas but the loss of loved ones. Even the predsidential candidate have parked their political agendas for the moment (both candidate at their absolute best). Maybe we can stop debating long enough to support those affected and do what we can to create healing. Our agendas, I promise, will all be there whenever we look for them. For now, here's hoping we heal others and ourselves.

Anya the RATTY!
Posted 13 years agoI recently started watching Kashmere. They opened up to draw up a few rat pictures. Of course I had to get one. Many years ago, when I found the fandom, my first character was a rat.
Seeing as Anya is a shapeshifter, she does, on occasion, take on her rodent form. In this picture, Anya happily reads by candlelight.

Posted 14 years agoOh, cripes.
Halloween is just around the corner. I'll be attending several parties (yay). However, I realized that I don't have a name badge for Tesla! He is my male rabbit suit.
Is anyone open for a quick badge commission? I would need it in my hands by Thursday, October 27.

My preferred way to fursuit
Posted 14 years agoThis is not my work! However, I fully agree with what has been written. It is cross-posted here, with permission:
The following chapters on the Etiquette of Fursuiting are bits of information and advise that I was taught and have experienced to allow me and others to be skilled performers and “Hobbyist”. I want to share these lessons with the rest of the world, to help others find their way to the joy and accomplishment that fursuiting can bring. With in this document and its following chapters is information for your individual consumption, take from it what you will and discard the rest. Each hobbyist has a different approach and will find some (or hopefully) all of this useful. I want people to have fun and be the best they can be at this wonderful hobby and art form called Fursuiting...
Thank you taking the time to read this.
What is a hobby? A hobby is something we do for the pleasure of doing them, and most hobbyist aspire to be better and better with each attempt at it; in hopes of possibly being as good as the professionals. Its that feeling of accomplishment that most hobbyist seek. The key to gaining that sense of accomplishment and fulfillment is by striving to improve our skills and to better our selves at the hobby till it becomes an Art. I want people to have fun and enjoy themselves! With that in mind, fursuiting is not an individual hobby or art form. With out observers to admire the suit and/or our presentation we are just people running around in a costume in the privacy our our own homes (that is no longer a hobby *wink-wink nudge-nudge*). How we present our selves in a fursuit reflects on our hobby and our community.
The crucial key to fursuiting is to be SEEN. Not only to be seen but be seen in suit and seen portraying a character (be it our own or someone else). We have our pictures taken, we get hugs, we parade around, and we dance and entertain we do this as much for our selves as for those who see us. It is a truly wonderful gift to be able to cause someone to smile. It is a gift that is not free or easy however. Fursuiting is a masochists hobby; its hot, sweaty, confining, and even dangerous. It requires effort, dedication, and a good deal of endurance. I advise those that are not willing to put forth such requirements to not waste your energy, time, and/or money. This is not the easiest of hobbies.
Most fursuiters only ever wear a fursuit at conventions. So, they only find casual audiences to perform for. This has created a sense of blasé faire toward their craft and their audience, and an attitude of “I paid for it, and I will do what I want with it!” (paying for something and knowing how to use it are two different things). Admires of fursuits and the fursuiters want to see and often take pictures of the suiter in suit (Seems like commonsense right? You might be surprised, I certainly was). This is how both suits and their performers can become rather famous with in the social community of Furry. Their pictures or videos can become viral on the internet, their performance can be talked about and hyped up. When a fursuiter does not take this into account and consistently commits to bad performing habits (like removing parts of their suit in public view, drops out of character, or does not take care of their suit: letting it get dirty, smelly, or fall apart) few if any want to take their pictures, get hugs, dance, or even smile at that fursuiter. They don't have their pictures spread across the internet and their lack of dedication to he hobby is spoken about (that is called “infamy”). I ask would you want to take a picture of a beautiful fursuit where the performer has removed their head, and hands? It not a very attractive image...
To be SEEN doing our hobby is the essence of our hobby. This is one of the keys to being good at our hobby. To be great entertainers, and performers and to cast that magical feeling of fun, laughter, and awe in others. So, go out there, be seen! Make people smile, and laugh; the effort is hard, but the feelings of warmth and accomplishment are well worth any discomfort!
Again I am simply offering this up as advice, take what you will from it.
Enjoy

Suiting at Capital Buildings
Posted 14 years agoA friend asked about suiting at capital buildings. After commenting there, I figured I should post about it here, just to share.
- I've suited in front of at least 3 capital buildings. I typically go on the weekend (Sundays are usually empty). I take a walk around, to see if there is anyone of authority to check with. I never go inside the building. I'm always out near the street, or on the steps in front.
To this day, I've not encountered any security, just families...usually with kids. When I do this, I remember that it is guerrilla suiting. I have a good handler with me, and am willing to take pictures with those who ask. When they ask "Why are you doing this?", I (or rather, I have my handler) tell them I'm an amateur costume maker and these capital pictures are a life goal of mine.
My first capital suit picture (which I need to find) was at the Denver Capital Building. It was during Pridefest in....2006 (I think). So, yes, it can be done.
So, for a good photo shoot, basically seek permission first, be friendly, keep a good distance, and have fun!
