More on DC Comics going furry
Posted 2 years agoI learned more about the business with Nightwing getting foxy. It's part of DC's big "event" this year, Planet Beast. Beast Boy/Changeling of the Titans turns himself into Starro for some reason and then he emits spores like Starros usually does to control people. Only, instead of controlling people, they turn them into furries. Insane, savage, murderous, sometimes lust-crazed, furries -- except when they're not. I looked at a few books and there seems to be no rhyme or reason for why some people like Batman become feral beasts and some other like Harley Quinn retain their sanity.
Also an oddity is that Batman turns into a wolf-man instead of a bat. And Harley becomes a muscled up rabbit woman. Missed your chance for a Amazonian hyena there, DC. Among others, Huntress becomes a panther-woman and Red Hood Jason Todd turns into a red-furred wolf. You know, little Red Riding Hood and all that?
Really though it feels like another zombie apocalypse though with furries rather than shambling corpses. Or vampires. Or kill-crazy maniacs. Just to name three versions of this idea DC has done in the past decade. I hope it gets better.

DC's Nightwing turns furry
Posted 2 years agoNo, seriously. They're making him into an anthropomorphic fox!

I wonder how well this will go over with DC's shrinking fanbase?

Werewolves in people-suits from Outer Space!
Posted 2 years agoI hit paydirt!
Back in the late 80's or so I read a series titled 'Private School'. It was an odd little thing; basically werewolves, or at least wolf-people, from outer space try to invade a high school. They kill and eat nosy students and teachers as they plot their conquest of all humanity. The standard ragtag pack of meddling kids find out about it and spend six books facing the lupine invasion.
The best part? The wolf-people hide among humans by wearing human suits. Kind of like the Lizards from "V". And several of them in the book form the cheerleader squad for the school. It gets even better when you consider that the wolf-girl cheerleaders were shown as being serious about their cheering. Hey, they may have been inhuman murderous wolf-women hiding among us, but they had school spirit.
Here's the first book on Amazon for those interested:

R.I.P. Arleen Sorkin
Posted 2 years agoThis may not matter to too many people, but Arleen Sorkin has left us. I knew her best as the original voice actress for Harley Quinn, and I loved what she did with that character.
So long Harl, and thanks for the memories.

Bomb threat at MCFC
Posted 2 years agoSo, it seems there was a e-mailed bomb threat at Motor City Furry Con.
https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/10508647/
The hotel was searched and nothing was found, so it looks like it was someone's sadistic idea of a joke. I'm just glad no one was hurt.
Y'know, a few years ago when a friend and I day-tripped AnthroCon in Pittsburgh and he got trailed for a few a blocks from the parking area by some clods who cursed at him and made threats (he was completely unimpressed), I thought that was as far as 'messing with furry cons' was going to get, aside from the time with the chlorine gas at the 2014 Midwest FurFest. Now this.
I wonder if it'll turn out to be another case like that Florida con where the troublemaker turned out to be a fan with a grudge against another fan?

A fan needs help
Posted 2 years agoAnyone want some Ted Sheppard art
Posted 2 years agoWas looking through my room earlier today and I discovered seven portfolios of Ted's Stosstrupp art, namely the girls, as well as one of 'Vintage Cheesecake'. I.e., tasteful nudes done in various earlier eras.
They're on the old side -- Ted did them all back in the early 90's, in the still mostly pre-Internet days. Still, they're in good shape and if someone wanted them and was willing to make an offer for the lot I'd gladly mail them to you.
I also found some of Ted's commissions he did for me back then. I'll see about having them scanned and posted here.

Who owns Vicky Wyman's art?
Posted 3 years agoMore specifically, who has the rights to her 'Xanadu' stories? I recall her mentioning that she didn't have any close relatives left, or any friends interested in the work. I recall MU Press printing her work back in the 1990s but I think they're long gone.
I'm just wondering if it would ever be possible for her work to ever be reprinted, in hardcopy or electronic form.

Xanadu fursuits from Archon 18
Posted 3 years agoWay back in 1994, Bruce and Nora Mai did some professional-quality fursuits based on Vicky Wyman's characters Tabbe the thief and Fatima the dancer from the Xanadu series. I've been searching for them for some time, and I finally found them. Here they are if you want to see what they looked like. The performance with them must have been amazing!

I'll post one photo in my gallery, with all credit to the Mais, just so people can see what the suits actually looked like without running all over the net. If I do wrong I'll take it back down.

Still a great fursuit horror story after 20+ years
Posted 3 years agoKim Liu's 'Costume - Vixen, Golden'. This was a great story when I first read it, oh man, maybe 20 years or so ago in Yarf! And it's still a great story. Nice slow creepy horror story, done with an amazing skill. Look at its length and see how tightly plotted it is. Not a single word wasted.
Anyway, enough from me.
Here's the story: http://www.furry.de/tsa/furry/costu.....xengolden.html

Bad news for old school furry fans
Posted 3 years agoChuck Melville is in the hospital on hospice care. Cancer, stage 4.
I really enjoyed his art. Got a few pieces in my old sketchbook that I don't think were ever scanned, and I always enjoyed his stories of Felicia. Plus his work with one of the first major furry publishers, MU Press.
Thank you for everything, Mister Melville.
