If you have some cool stuff(CLEAN PLEASE- FINDING FUCKHOLES IN STUFFED ANIMALS IS THE WORST SURPRISE EVER) that you don't use anymore or has been relegated to a closet for some reason, why not donate it to the charity? Worst case, you should come by and meet the people who work there. They're crazy otaku and gamers. AND THEY LIKE ANIMALS. Its okay, we're converting the world, SLOOOOWY >:3

Posted 10 years agoI’ve been thinking a lot lately about how much garbage I generate in the production of costumes. Especially with foam, it’s a hell of a lot. I’ve got a few recycling techniques but it only works so much. I figure for every costume I generate about a full garbage bag of trash- foam bits, scraps of fabric, shaved bits of fur and plastic cups(Especially with casting, we generate a LOT of plastic waste), stirrers and the like. I try very hard to use ‘one use’ items at least a second time, but it’s a hell of a thing.
So after I finish my current queue(Next 1-4 months) I’m going to work on recycling techniques- I’ve already got schematics drawn up for a way to recycle foam, and I’m going to try to figure out a way to use marked glass containers that can be cleaned out, rather than plastic cups(Although the residue of uncured polymers and urethanes is quite toxic to some people, myself included- THANKS ALLERGIES). Do you have any cost-effective ways to cut down on trash production?
The planet’s pretty important. Dare I say- infinitely more important than wearing silly animal costumes. But I’d REALLY like to have my cake and eat it, too. >.> So if you have some suggestions to cut down on my(and potentially others) garbage output, PLEASE let me know.
Stuff I already do:
+Re-use single use items
+Sharpen scissors and fix broken ‘stock’ tools, rather than buying new ones.
+Re-use empty paint continers, boxes and tubes.

+Re-use large scraps on personal projects or for props

Clinicals, Finals, Queue

Posted 11 years agoTanith almost done, NFT around ankles, go over ensure all is doublestitched. Should be done, take full body pix, send out and do last looks.
Gotta run into annapolis -.- to get medical check, hopefully it wont cost an arm and a leg. Get doc's sig on medcheck for internship papers.
Order uniforms, study for third exam.
Start on Deez's head, got everything in I need.
Start on ASH or TOXIC(Did the glow powder come in?)
Things to order: 1" and 1/2" foam(Need for miranda and istl's bodysuits), check 3" and 5" stock, looks like enough but might be low in supply closet. Dragonskin(Just enough for pawpads for drac, gray and cubby feet), more green fleece for green arms/legs

Posted 11 years agoThese will be run in smooth cast 300(Plastic). I ordered featherlite to try and reduce the weight but I am unsure if I can use it(The fumes alone from one cast caused half of my entire body to break out in seeping hives).
These will include both sets of tusks installed and secured with hot glue + apoxie sculpt. Eyes(2), painted in a SINGLE COLOUR of your choice(Or these can be left off for no change in price so you can arrange your own upon arrival, lack of specifying eye colour in your order will mean they get left off). More eyes can be arranged and adhered with hot glue + apoxie sculpt, let me know.
This includes the eyes + nose dremmelled out and a buckram(Soft cottony fabric, not metal) laid on the backs. They will be have elastic banding for the moving jaw and elastic banding for the back of the head(Gneerically fit, you can adjust as you see fit upon it's arrival).
For sizing purposes these heads are about 2-3 pounds each, and 12" tall from lower jaw angle to apex of head, 8" long from front of teeth to back of jaw, 14" along the front of the teeth over the nose to the back of the head, 5" from one jaw point to the other(horizontally). Lower jaw may protrude slightly past front teeth, some dremmelling may be necissary to get the head how you like it. I will do the majority of the work, but depending on how picky you are about small details you might need to put in some extra work. Consider yourself warned.

Posted 11 years agoBefore I head out to class- I'm taking a paramedic course right now, because I have to start making some real income, so hopefully I will do well and be able to start having real job times by december. This takes up tuesdays, thursdays and one saturday a month(Upcoming).
Been hitting the gym every day, holy shit I lost 15lbs and am toning up. I am going to be the muscliest monster SNARL RIP TEAR ROAR
-Mirandas head is foamed(Purple wigs arrived!)
-Featherlite is ordered, est arrival monday- for casting the limited run skulls
-Tanith's body is almost done(Doublestitching before final fitting)
-Taniths hands are done, gotta do feet which will be part of the mould run
-Started sculpting a universal footpaw mould so I can save a shitload of time on the WORST PART OF FURSUITS ughhh i hate feeeet. My current feet commissions will be using this.

Tomato season

Our tomato crops have started to ripen, so I'm already overwhelmed with canned tomato sauce and puree- any suggestions for fun things to do with pickling tomatoes or canning them? I'm pretty plain jane- I like fresh tomatoes on salad, or tomato sauce makes everything better- but I'm always in the market to try new homestyle canned stuff.
